Rear door opens from outside not from inside

Had this problem for a few weeks, but I rarely have more than one passenger, still needs to be sorted! What would be the cause of this? I have seen a few threads about the door opening from inside and not outside but not the way round my problem is?

Usually, the cable has come away from the interior door handle.

It is easy to check, just remove the handle trim and see. If it has come away, you can usually just hook it back on.

If the cable is firmly attached, then it is a door card off job to see what is no longer connected properly.

Check the child lock has not been knocked on.

Is that in the owners book? I have one, but if it isn't how do I check? Embarrassing :getmecoat:
Oh and can it be done to just the one door?

A couple of possibilites.

1) the child lock is on. With the door open just beneath or alonside the latch is a small protruding tab that can be moved to one of two positions in one positions it activates the child lock which disables the interior door release handle.

2). And this does happen now and again... the eye on the back of the handle to which the release cable attaches has broken.

3). which leads me to broken release cable (usually one end or the other has come adrift)

4). and finally maybethe cable has become disconnected from one end or the other.

If it's not the child lock then you'll have to remove the interior handle to check the cable out. To do this there's a small cap over a screw in the centre of the handle, prise that off carefully (so as not to damage anythin) and then remove the screw. The handle should come away with the chrome surround (don't attempt to remove the surroung first - you don't have to and will only break the attachment lugs). The release cable should be hooked to an eye on the back of the handle: the other end attaches to the lock mechanism inside the door.

Thank you for the list and tips, I have had all of the door cards off before so I know the hook and loop you refer to :) if anyone has a picture of the child lock tab deactivated position it would be greatly appreciated :D

I had the same problem and needed to replace the locking mechanism

It was the child lock, don't know how that happened! Cheers guys, often the simple things :getmecoat:
