Air bag light +
Hi All,
My air bag light keeps coming on, the rear nearside door will not lock, but I do not think any Garages around here will touch it. I am too old now to do it myself, so not sure what to do next? MOT due in September so plenty of time to get it fixed. |
Check the underseat connectors first, pull them apart a few times to clean the contacts.

As Ronnie said nine times out of ten its the under seat connectors that bring the airbag light up. Can be caused by either the airbag or the seat belt pretensioner connector. As suggested disconnect them, squirt of electrical cleaner the connect/disconnect several times.

Air bag light
Hi Guys,
Thank you for the info. I have cleaned up under the driver’s seat, but have yet to test it on a short run. Decided to check the passenger seat and found the electrics not working! I am unable to move the seat forward, back or up. This then may well be the problem but how to get the electrics working if I cannot get to the plugs? When I start the car the airbag light will not normally come on until I have driven 3 or 4 miles> |

Hi,
Sorry but have found the passenger forward and back is now working. I turned the ignition fully on left both front doors open and it is working ok. I have checked all the relevent fuses and all ok. Will test in the morning. Kindest regards |

Good morning,
I set off this morning taking my dog for her regular run by driving to the local forest. After approximately two and half miles the airbag light came on. I parked up and we went for our hour in the forest. On the return to home trip the light did not come on!? It normally comes on before I reach home. I am still not quite sure which wires/socket I should pull apart, all I have done so far is moved the cables about and sprayed electrical cleaner fluid. I have not so far touched any of the passenger seat cables. |

If you look at the above, the airbag is the yellow wire and connector to the left, the seat belt pre tensioner is the black wire with yellow connector lower middle of the pic. It is fairly common practice to replace or even eliminate the connectors in favour of solder and heatshrink. |

The connectors in Steve's picture above are for the later model very late 03 to 06 reg. https://i.imgur.com/Sz2REcFl.jpg1 https://i.imgur.com/tIbHoJRl.jpg2 Your car being a 02 plate will or should have the older type connector as here below. https://i.imgur.com/bATKGeGl.jpg3 https://i.imgur.com/19jKuxql.jpg4 https://i.imgur.com/FPiH7sUl.jpg5 The older type usually are the more stable connectors so maybe they just need disconnecting and sprayed with electrical contact cleaner, not WD40 or anything else that will leave a residue, and plugging back together, also make sure they are not dragging on the carpet. |

Thank you Artic,
I was finding it difficult and did not want to make matters worse! Your photos are the same as my under seat layout so I can now proceed. Watch this space. I am assuming there are no NANO meets in suffolk or Norfolk. I rarely see another 75, feels kinder lonely here in Suffolk. The midlands is all action, I did in fact buy my 75 from a guy in Sheffield almost eighteen years ago! |
