KV6 EMS2000 diagnostics working (sort of)
 

I have now cracked the login algorithm for the EMS2000 ECU.

So far I can read and delete error codes, and I have enough tools to do the live data but I haven't actually done it. I got far enough to know that it will get done though.

With this ECU I am also getting more codes in Rover mode than in EOBD, though it does work with an EOBD scanner.

I think that it will take me a solid day to get the live data done, maybe more, and I can only do it during week days as that's when I can get access to the reference tool for this. I'll reply back when it's done.

How much of the Bosch KTS system format is being used in this Phillip?

I may have a KTS 550 kicking about somewhere if I hunt hard enough ;)

That does make sense Phillip, as OBD2 is primarily for emissions reporting.

What do you mean by "system format"? Basically I use the KTS and sometimes a friend's SnapOn Modis to figure out what the bytes within the various packets mean.

The format of the packets was designed by Rover (or maybe BMW.. ) not Bosch or SnapOn.

I'm not sure what difference it makes which tool is used to figure it out.

What are the chances of supporting the Freelander 1 KV6 too ?

It seems likely that the EMS2000 will be the same as the R75/ZT so yes.
If the Jatco protocol is the same as R75/ZT then it would by my intention to do that as well.
I am probably going to struggle to get hold of an MS43 ECU so that one seems problematic. I also assume that they are OBD2 compliant so is there going to be a big market for that?
I would like to support the Freelander ABS/Airbag ECUs as well but it will be a while. I have to work on the ECUs first that I have already committed to with people who have already paid on that basis.

I wanted to crack the live data for the EMS2000 this week before the Kickstarter campaign closes, but the person who lets me use his Modis has gone on holiday for a week so that isn't going to be possible. Hopefully I can get it done next week.

Yeah same Jatco TCM in the Freelander 1 and the 75/ZT.

in the Freelander the MS 43 does have OBD2 for troublecodes, but in that mode, there are very very very few PID for live data. (engine rpm temp, a few more things)

Can you do work with just an ECU by itself or you need the whole car?

Normally I can manage just with the ECU.
