Is it me or are cars getting......

uglier?

Not many cars about these days with classic three 'box' arrangement. Everything seems to be a hatchback of varying sizes. Though I note that the more expensive brands (RR, Mercedes, Bentley, BMW, Audi etc) have kept faith with that format.

To me one of the most important things when buying a car is its looks - perhaps why I like my ZTs. They have a sense of understated style.

Going to treat myself next year when I retire to a two year old car - my main car is a 2005 ZT. Must be 2.0l and around 175 bhp. But what to buy...not as much choice as there used to be. Progress - ho hum!

I agree, I prefer a 'saloon' (if a convertible isn’t an option). After my 75, I had a Saab vert, with a boot, then a Merc C220, then a Lexus IS300h hybrid, both saloons. I’d have either again, leaning a bit to the Merc.

FWIW, before the 75 were a Honda Accord, a Rover Sterling, Vauxhall Carlton, MG Montego (x2). All 3 box-with-a-boot! Prior to that were company cars, so I had no choice.

For tip runs though, Mrs B has a hatchback.........

the interiors are also a let down. Any colour you like as long as its black.
JLR stuff, my goodness how poor they are inside

Quite right

I have to fully agree with earlier statements. I find most modern cars utterly boring - too often grey silver or black on the outside and grey/black with sections of aluminium/silver inside. Only some of the Jaguar series seem more interesting - and have some of the classic British look. That's why I just love the 75's - really classic , pleasing design in and out. SO much of the others on the road are boring and truly dull.

Wot?

For interior quality and ambiance, JLR and Mercs are tops.

And this IMO is the pinnacle of body styling. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...r_20100918.jpg

P.S. I saw a rather stunning lady the other day - upon seeing her, the first thing that came into my head was the first generation CLS. I know - it's sad, but just goes to show how much I'd love to have a CLS in my company. :drool4::drool4::drool4:

Love the JLR

I love my MG ZT but then I love modern cars too, the only car I owned previously that I really miss is my Land Rover Freelander 2, almost bought a new Discovery, really liked that too and an absolute pleasure to drive. You can have a £30 000 paint option on the new Range Rover 😆👍🚗

To me that Merc looks truly awful, but "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder".
I can't make up my mind whether it looks like it has been bent by a simultaneous front and rear impact, or maybe it has been heated up and melted at both ends.

Anyway, I can see where they have got their styling clues from: ;)

I liked the Granada hatch, I had several in a row - it was a very practical car. The Frog/Scorpio 3-box was much less practical, like the 75. I love the 75 for its looks and its build, still very modern, but it is just not such a 'jack of all trades'.
