LAST NANO MEET 2019 October 19th &20th

Hello all members /owners.

Our last meet of the year is forth coming on October 19th & 20th 2019.

At our usual venue the Four Ashes Public House.

You are all welcome to attend so hopefully we will see quite a few of you at the last meet of the year, you can find our calendar on our nano forum, the link is also at the bottom by my signature.

There is free camping from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th October for those that want to camp, either bring your tent, caravan or sleep in the car.

Photo kindly contributed by Rob (trebor)
https://i.imgur.com/0rCXN6jl.jpg1

Also there are plenty of local B&Bs/ hotels at reasonable prices, details on the links page of our website below for those that do not fancy camping.
http://www.midlandsnanomeets.co.uk/links.html

There maybe a full English breakfast with tea/coffee on both Saturday & Sunday mornings 10.00, this as of yet not been established we will announce this closer to the day.

If the breakfast does not go ahead then there is a café about 3 miles up the road, quite a few members visit that if they are peckish.

There will still be a choice of Saturday evening meals which are very good and at a reasonable price, if you wanted to join in the social part of the Saturday evening, last orders for the evening meal should be around 20.00pm so you are not disappointed.

As always there will be advice & help for those jobs you would like to tackle and have not got round to, this is the last chance of the year to sort out those little niggle, we also have free T4 sessions sometimes we have two T4 which helps cut down the waiting time.

I will be carrying the usual free plenum spy hole mod trays, intercooler bends with added Viton O-rings, Viton coolant cap O-rings.

I also will have with me Inline stats, PCV filters, Shannon tubes, gold resistor, amongst other items etc.

Also at this meet I will have two only ( Manifold EGR MAP sensor ) available to get your car ready for the Autumn & winter months ahead, these are change overs for diesel cars only, you would need to PM if you would like one of these, as a time as to be allocated for the swap over.

All the best & hope to see you there Arctic.
" You do the work , we supply the expertise.

Arctic 18th September 2019 00:29

This is what the manifold & EGR looked like which I swapped over at the last meet, how was the engine ever breathing properly  answer is it wasn't.

The owner certainly went home with an engine that could now breath better, and would run better, add a change of PCV filter as well & the car will have thanked him back in MPG.

https://i.imgur.com/JdDcYeYl.jpg1

Note the rear of the EGR
https://i.imgur.com/DDkm8tbl.jpg2

Look how the entrance of the manifold as closed up through the nasty black tar that was chocking the engine.
https://i.imgur.com/DDkm8tbl.jpg3

PCV filter were hard to the touch on both the cars that they were removed from.

Ready to do there work again once more ;)

Could always open a Google Mail account as a temporary solution?

I will of course be there in October. :)

Odd Job 18th September 2019 16:18

Many thanks Artic,

One of those PCV filters was mine. It looks like it had never been changed since the car left the factory back in 2005!

I was meaning to ask, roughly how many miles should I be looking at changing it again?

Many thanks

Richard

Hi Richard.
I changed mine every 18 months 2yrs but I should imagine you would get at least 20.000miles out of one which would work out around 6p per month :D yours would have been changed sometime if it had not it would have been swollen at least three times the amount in the photo.

You can now add your names onto the Nano website if attending in October, link in my signature below

I'll only be doing roughly 6000 miles a year in mine, so should last a while!

We are trying to sort the registration issue out for you, I have sent you a pm

Arctic 21st September 2019 23:31

Inner wing filters

Yesterday I sorted out the inner wing plenum drain filters for our car, these stop debris ie leaves etc getting into the lower plenum chamber which in turn can block the plenum drain tube under the ECM, which then lets water rise and can damage the ECM.

Remember these have to be asked for they are (FOC) one set per car only, and very easy to fit cheers Arctic

HI John.
There should be one or even a virtual T4 so yes it can be checked ;)

I have sent you a pm , the issue was the Nano site uses a security spam filter called spam eating monkey and that filter has blacklisted BT openworld as it is renown for allowing millions of SPAM messages through their system. They are the alleged worst offenders in mainstream email services. We used a workaround to allow you to use your BT Openworld e mail to log onto our site

Hi Robert. (warbird) Robert (trebor ) as been in contact with Mick as have I and its seems you should now be able to login in on the Nano forum.

Please do let us know if you indeed can cheers Arctic.

Bernard Fishtrousers 26th September 2019 15:04

I've registered, awaiting approval, on the other forum and am planning to pop over on the Saturday.

Does anyone else that's coming have a jack for a tourer if it's specific, or if it's not, a 75 jack they could sell me at the meet.

I seem to have everything else, but for some reason the jack itself is missing.

Thanks in anticipation.

Good morning Nano-ists!

I've not been able to attend the local Frimley and Ugly Duckling meets "down south" here the last couple of months, or next month, and missing my Rover/MG "fix" :duh:

If I'm allowed out to play tomorrow I hope to get up to the Nano. It's a bit of a way, but it'll be a nice Sunday drive! :D:D

Is there anyone who can help /advise / show how to replace the cogs in my driver side Powerfold mirror? I bought the cogs ages ago but not had the courage to do it yet!

Have a nice Saturday folks ... hope to see you tomorrow

And if there is a T4 slot available....?... :D

John

Bogbrush82 19th October 2019 09:39

I'm sure somebody there could help you out. :)

T4 was today only I'm afraid, although there will be a virtual one on Sunday as far as I know. Should be good enough to at least give you a basic health check. :)

Bernard Fishtrousers 19th October 2019 14:34

Nice to meet a few folk, thanks for the jack & the plenum rod and...
Over 211 miles, I got 30mpg!

Arctic 19th October 2019 17:40

Excellent meet today over 45 cars attended, one of the biggest attended meets we have ever had, so surprising as we thought the weather was going to be bad but as always the sun gods were looking over us thank you Odin :D

The plenum rods were a big hit, there are a few left for tomorrow should anyone be attended see you all in the morning Arctic ;)

Bogbrush82 19th October 2019 19:08

Sounded like a lot of fun. :)

Thanks for looking after Bones for me. BTW did you get my msg regards the fan?

Odd Job 19th October 2019 19:09

I'll be there tomorrow Steve.

Keeping my fingers crossed for good weather!

Am I still good for my 11:00 slot for my cooling fan circuit replacement please?

Many thanks

.

Hi Richard.
Yes I can not see why not, as you say fingers crossed, we do have the tents set up though just in case, so when you arrived maybe park nose in on one of them, I have an inline stat to do first, then a lower engine mount which should take about an hour for both.

In the mean time you can be taking out the bolts on the bumper etc ;) see ya tomorrow.

Odd Job 19th October 2019 19:46

Yep, great stuff!
Will do!

Looking forward to my second meet and learning some more!

Cracking day despite getting caught in the M1 closure around Sheffield and it taking over 3 hours to get there.

Nice to see faces old and new, public thanks to woolysox for a much needed cuppa  and thanks to my old friend Dattrike for the vis fixings, always welcome.

Not many V6's there but found a nice specimen with failed Vis motors and managed to repair both of them.

Helped Trebor with polishing his car as it was very dirty but sorry didn't have time to finish the whole car. (OK lets be honest, polished one door and half of the bonnet then legged it :D :D)

Thanks for having me chaps

Looking forward to next year already :)

I attended yesterday (Saturday) the weather was surprisingly good. A lot more there than I expected saw some familiar faces and spent many a while chatting away to some really friendly people. Picked up a plenum rodding tool from Steve (Arctic) and some spongy things which are meant to stop the leaves and debris getting under the scuttle panels. All useful little goodies. And might I say I had a lovely dinner in the Four Ashes Pub about 3pm. Friendly staff, excellent piping hot food served in quick time and a pint of course. And I noticed on the menu that they do an all day breakfast as well which some weren't sure if they did or not. So lets here it for the Four Ashes Pub and try and give them some custom at the next meetings as I think they deserve it. Look forward to next year. The next outing for me is The Classic Car Show at the NEC next month.

Odd Job 20th October 2019 17:00

I attended today ( Sunday ) , sadly I was late arriving so I didn't get manage to get a job done on my ZT, but it was great to meet people!

Plenty of advice, nice chatting to several members! I did have my bonnet cable thingy swapped over to help prevent the cables from popping out! Thanks very much for that!

( really sorry, I dont know who that was! But thank you! )

It was damn cold without a coat! It must of been 5 degrees colder on the field than in Derby! The wind didnt help though!

Arctic 20th October 2019 19:19

Nano meets over for 2019 roll on 2020 meets.

What can I say but the last meet of our 2019 season as been one of the best ever meets I have had the pleasure to be at, Saturday was exceptional over 40 cars, a record I would say for one of our meets, it was great to see and hear lots of different owners & members swapping stories & knowledge about these great cars, once again nice to all crew and members get together to work along side each other in complete harmony also complimenting each in the jobs they under took on their own or others cars.

Today Sunday was also a wonderful turn out, 32 cars I think I counted it could have been more at one point, happy to see that Chris & Pam got their light problem sorted out, and for making endless cup of tea & coffee for us, they also turn up along with Pete, Derek to camp on the Friday day nights looking after the tents if we have erected them, we even had a member ( John Grout20) drive over three hours to come to his first meet, the meets are still as good as when they first started, we had quite a few new faces and as always lots of familiar faces whom come to every meet.

Many thanks for those that attend, if you didn't then the meets could well die off, as long as we have the enthusiasm for these cars then I can only see the meets carrying on for quite a long time, big thank you to all the crew for as always willing to help out, thank you to Dave & Mariana traveling and putting up with the 3 hours traffic they got stuck in to share his special skills on vis motors and more, Mark for always turning up with the tent come rain or shine, jubbs for sharing his ICE knowledge, Jamie for his VT4 work he as come on leaps & bounds since I first meet him about 4 years ago to a very knowledgeable enthusiast, trebor & devlish for there gained knowledge in the field of FBH, Woolley for being one of the old stalwarts and our flag flyer come hot water kettle boiler, Scott who will always get stuck in on any job needing doing he as got the rear stuck seats down to a fine art now I watched him today release one with in about 40 seconds John who is great with electrics rear blinds etc he was sadly absent but quite a few people asked about him, and last but not least a special thank you to Duncan for all his work on the T4 on the Saturday he was well over run with cars to T4 you've got to have great patience, ability to wait for something without frustration is a skill itself to on car after car also answer questions fired at you from al angles, fountain of knowledge and a great aspect of one's personality, I owe him a very personal thank you for sorting out a touch screen for my T4 at home which I will now spend hours getting to learn on over the winter months really appreciated.

So once again lets give our selves members & crew a big see you all next year if not before pleasure to know and work along all of you cheers Arctic.

PS if i have missed anyone out I am truly sorry

Yes you missed one, one of the stalwarts of the Nano Meets, one who never seems to stop all day, never known him miss a meet, always helping people and always available for a chat he is also what I consider to be a good friend of mine.
So, Steve thanks to ............. You.... for all the hard work you put into the meets along with all the other Nano meet members that keep these meets going

grout20 20th October 2019 19:32

My first Nano .... brilliant! .... thanks!

Hi all,

Like Odd Job I attended today. Great to meet and to chat to many, and to put faces to some names.

Thanks to everyone who gave advice and tips.

Rob (Trebor) and Steve (Arctic) are two that really deserve credit not just for the work they undertake at these meets, but also for doing the numerous "How To's" that I'm sure many of us have used on here. And that full FBH install that Devlish and Trebor were doing today was brilliant to watch!

Special thanks to Jamie for making up a second key for my V6 and the VT4 checkover.... even if he did confirm I need a couple of VIS motors :duh::eek:

I should have driven up to the Saturday session to try to catch Stocktake to get some VIS's ! (Dave .... will be in touch shortly)

It was a 3 hour drive up but well worth it. Damn those 50mph stretches on the M1 and M6! :duh::duh:

See you again in March next year I'm sure!

Regards

John

I went to the Nano today and was amazed at the amount and type of jobs that were being undertaken Mainly Jamie retrofitting Cruise control and Trebor and Devilish fitting a FBH complete with a remote control unit It truly amazes me that they undertake these tasks in a field.

I would also like to thank Jamie for doing the Health Check on my Replacement Engine and finding all was fine with it.

When I come over from France I always try to tie in with the Nano,s to meet up with people, here's looking to next years..;)

Only joking as all the crew have their individual skills and as Steve has said already we compliment each other well and not much beats us collectively and long may it continue, only sorry that a few members go away with their jobs not completed, normally they can be carried over to the following Nano meet which is usually a month away but of course next one now will be March 2020 and we will publish the dates asap.

We have had great support this year from crew, campers, owners, management of the Four Ashes and the weather and we will try and order the same in 2020, one thing for sure the politicians will still be arguing over Brexit well into next year, saw a great quote from Margaret Thatcher recently which said that politicians are like baby's nappies, they need changing regularly and for the same reasons.

I would like to sign off by saying a massive thank you to everyone who has attended one or more of our meets in 2019. whether crew, regular visitors or new owners, many people travel long distances to attend and that is always appreciated, can I give a special mention to Mick who arranges the website hosting for us and sorts out any technical issues we may suffer from time to time :comp: it has been a pleasure organising the meets this year and I will be speaking to the owner of the Four Ashes to sound him out for using this venue next year and will post back what he says on here.

See you all in 2020 and in the meantime have a great Xmas and New Year when the time comes :thumb: :union:

After 2 years being not able to come to a Nano, I finally made it and thank you to Artic and Scott for finally releasing the jammed rear seat – then had a real struggle to get it back in position. On Artic's advice I got a cheap broom handle from Wilko today for £1.50 ready to cut to length to get those pesky seat squab lock bars locked. Started with a carpet clean up finding a few more coins along the way then tackled the seat. I removed the rags behind the seat back and managed this time with the help of a neighbour to get locked both ends, then also the seat itself, all locked tight. Best thing was the broom handle was not needed, but maybe another time of course!

The other problem of the rear blind is ongoing, as it will go up but not down. I'll try adjusting the screws mentioned to move it over a little.
However, off to Cornwall tomorrow for a few days, so it will have to wait.
Good to chat and see some beautiful other cars. Weather not too bad either!
Until hopefully next year.
Ray

Glad you got it sorted Ray , does the seat fold aswell or are you not risking it now it's clipped in both sides ?

Regarding the blind it may need a strip down as I think the mechanisms may have moved, but you could try a bit of furniture polish on the top runner were the two arms go has been known to work!

Hi Mark. Nice to meet you and have a chat. Glad that you cleared up a puzzle for us about the all day breakfast. Will give them a try next year. Can not remember, but was it you who had done a ‘job’ on the bonnet? Gold Rover75?

So, Steve thanks to ............. You.... for all the hard work you put into the meets along with all the other Nano meet members that keep these meets going

I could not agree with you more Dave. Steve never seems to stop doing something. His generosity is boundless as are many others including yourself. If it was not for people like all the nano crew, and people like yourself, there would be no Meets. So thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Can not wait for next year to arrive.

No Scott, not tried folding again yet! Returned from Cornwall Friday evening in deadfall weather (won't help the sills). Had a problem though trying to park in Truro. Could not engage reverse! All gears had been getting difficult to get. Eventually after going round the car park the wrong way – not funny, I got it back to Redruth where we were staying. There is still a Rover garage but they are virtually in Lands End, too far to risk getting to. Found a specialist works in Falmouth (DT Motors) who could do anything until a week later! However, managed to get to them Weds morning for a check. Very helpful. But car would not reverse again. They tried checking the fluid which was totally black but reckoned the master cylinder was the problem. I had to leave it with them. Nearby was a Enterprise car hire place, so got a Fiesta from them.
Ringing DT the next morning it had not been touched, so had to arrange a hire car extension. Finally late afternoon they rang and it was done.
Flew over to Falmouth from Camborne handed car hire back which cost £110 and then walked to DT to collect car. They do claim to fit quality parts and said they had fitted a LUK cylinder, but a plastic one with a neoprene pipe as he said metal ones are not made. (Obviously untrue). I was not in the position to say or do anything about it.
That cost £150 for the part, some DOT4 fluid, £49 labour plus VAT came to £327 (plus the car hire £110) so Cornwall was all an expensive visit.
However, it works if a bit squeaky. Came back Friday night and tried the Cruise control which Jules last year got going for me only to find it no longer works! They of course have disturbed the switch and I know the master is in a pig of a place to get to, but it's more annoyance.
Hopefully the replacement master will continue to work for a good few miles. Fingers crossed!
Ray

Hello David sorry for the late reply I wasn't ignoring you I have just been waiting for a new charging lead for my laptop. Yes the all day breakfast it states it on the menu at the Four Ashes and its ideal for people like me who sometimes skip breakfast and wait almost until lunchtime by which time I am completely starving and the all day brekkie is then very much appreciated! Regarding the bonnet no don't think it was me David, although I did have a complete respray done on my bonnet earlier this year after a minor prang on the road. Only other bonnet related things for me are the new insulating panel under the bonnet I fitted and the bonnet release cable mod done by Arctic at one of the Nano meets at Four Ashes a while back.

bl52krz 10th November 2019 22:20

Hi Mark. Thanks for reply. I was not sure if it was your bonnet that needed a respray. Seems as though we just missed all this damp weather at the last nano.Hope to see you next year, and have a nice Christmas and new year. Not long to go now.
