Snow!!

According to the weather forecast this morning we're all in for a good covering of the white stuff:shrug:
Anyone woken up this morning to find their world has turned white?
There's a few fluffs floating about here but nothing more....Yet!

Not really no. The kids are watching out the window, hoping it will settle.

Anthony & Maricel 13th January 2013 09:10

We had a light dusting, It looked more like a good frost to be honest. Considering all the trumpet blowing the met office has done about this I am feeling a bit disappointed this morning.

coolcat 13th January 2013 09:18

It's a bit like the 'beast from the east' we were promised last month that amounted to nothing:shrug:
If it going to snow......Snow properly :D

sworks 13th January 2013 09:19

Just started here in the last 5 minutes

coolcat 13th January 2013 09:21

Had a bit of a blizzard here at about which lasted for an hour abo 2:30 this morn woke up expecting a winter wonderland but just left on cars... 😀

coolcat 13th January 2013 10:20

Calm before the storm perhaps;)

stevestrat 13th January 2013 10:30

It's making a very half-hearted attempt to snow here but then we rarely get badly hit. Hope I don't regret saying that :D

Anthony & Maricel 13th January 2013 10:34

It is bright and sunny here in Leicester and not a single cloud about.

FredSpencer 13th January 2013 11:11

Gloriously sunny here, a balmy 3 degrees and not a hint of snow. I've just got back from a nice sightseeing drive around Wharfedale ..... but I have parked my car facing the short way out of the street just in case. ;)

I really need to get to one of the North East meets one day, unfortunately I'm at the Freeman for a few days with a family member so may not be possible. Me and my son are staying at a premier inn near the airport - I chose one near to Throckly as I used to have relatives there so I know it's close enough but not in the city centre. I have been instructed early Wednesday morning before visiting I am going to the metro centre to buy a present so 'marmite' might be seen out and about

Parker 13th January 2013 20:51

I live on the coast in sunny South Wales, just been informed by a friend snowing in Porth, but that place does have it's own Eco climate ;)

Think the last time we saw snow here was 1982 :)

reworht 13th January 2013 20:57

We've gone from none to totally white over in the last hour - amber weather warning for the North East coast and North Yorks Moors for heavy stuff from mid-morning tomorrow

Nothing much so far. A barely noticeable few specks had settled overnight, a few light flakes at odd times during the day, but there is some light stuff coming down at the moment, but its landing wet showing +0.1C at the moment and predicting -3 overnight, so we might get some overnight.

I offered to do it, but she declined my offer...

Jean drove the m67-m60-m56-m6 to Wrightington and back today, 55miles each way, she saw very little snow either in the morning going, or in the afternoon coming back. But on the return trip she ran through several hail storms..

Still very little snow here... Rather disappointing innit... :o

Off topic-- Apparently her passengers commented on how quiet and smooth the ride was, asking a lot of question about the car, non of which she could answer.. lol.... :)

They're very good Mr/Ms Rubythursday. Stable and forgiving- especially with winter tyres- I played with mine a couple of years ago in a car park; got some strange looks in the car park... :D

Much the same as any other car really - low revs, high gear and no sudden movements - as others have said, the wider the tyre, the less grip on fresh snow. They are a bit long and heavy for handbrake turns - but that's another story ;)

That is a good option Stu - a touch of sliding practise in a deserted car park gives you a bit more chance of getting it back if it lets go with you of its own accord.

Cheers Rod; you'd be the best person to advise with your motorsport experience; what do you think of the '75 handling?

When mine let go on black ice (before winter tyres) I had to be quick to catch her, but had I not played with cars in car parks, I'd have binned her big time! :D

Hi,

Here are some pics that shows the "joy" of snow... The pictures was taken mid december at my home and it all came in 2 days.... Luckily, everything has melted away now and there is no snow coming down within the first weeks according to the forecast :) On the other hand, it was -10 deg C some places when I drove to work today :)

Hi Shuntis,

Had to visit my HR dept in Norwich at 2.30 yesterday (being on gardening Leave)
Decided unwise to use car so took the bus at 11.15 from Hingham,
Took me 4 hours to get to Norwich, last hour was 4 miles on foot.
Grapes Hill Coned off by police, missed meeting obviously, visited colleagues, warmed up, and had a coffee,
Over to bus station, waited 1.5 hours, caught a bus at 6pm back home at 9.15pm.

A wasted day, don't get out much this month and when i do this happens!

Conclusion -Norwich and gritters cannot cope with daytime snow, possibly unforecast. Norwich was gridlock from lunchtime onwards...

Regards

Mark

Nice garden freedie!:}

Can confirm the gridlock situation in Norwich, see my other post, daytime snow!

Regards to all..

Still the same here, no more snow overnight in my part of Norfolk, but stuff on ground is still here.
Schools still closed in my villige, notwithstanding all this drove to supermarket to stock up for weekend, 6 miles each way, roads poor but drivable. Freezing fog is now the issue here daytime.
Forecast for us is further light snow after 9pm tonight,
then friday!
continuous snow from lunchtime onward
Saturday is showing snow all day, Sunday snow morning and night.
Monday snow!
Reckon by next week it could be pretty bad here.
For what it is worth i use the free met office app on iphone, assume it's on Android, very good, i can almost set my watch on it as regards snowfall and temperature
Take care out there

Mark:}

Parker 17th January 2013 11:15

It looks lovely, just right for a nice walk.

I think it is our turn tomorrow if the weather bods can be believed, but we rarely get snow here.

windrush 17th January 2013 13:40

A late report from ALDERSHOT no signs as up to yet:D

Parker 17th January 2013 13:43

No excuses for you not being outside polishing that car then Derek ;)

RPWC 17th January 2013 13:56

About an inch and a half, here in the outskirts of newcastle, but about -8-10,I am unable to work, water is just freezing on the windows, even with anti freezing agent in the water, and heat on in the properties.
Sick ,ans skint,no work = no income.Topit all ,van insurance due next week, and hefty down payment required to start policy.

Vallich 17th January 2013 15:33

We can't afford snow in Barnsley so there must be some blowing in from a more affluent area 'cause my car wasn't white this morning but it is now

Anthony & Maricel 17th January 2013 15:55

It is snowing here in Leicester :D

Weso 17th January 2013 16:06

No further snow here today or forecast for tonight and a mild -1.5 at the minute,
the lull before the storm, met office suggests snow all day tomorrow and saturday, sunday and monday perhaps they are not committing themselves....
Predict this thread to be busy tomorrow morning,

Mark

stevestrat 17th January 2013 16:41

Baltic here but no sign of snow, only an occasional shower forecast. Doesn't look good for the south west and Wales, "significant" snow overnight :(

spyder 17th January 2013 17:18

Yah snow in Andover-school closed on Friday just in case. I do not mind a day off work, but at least wait to see if there is a problem.
Not the first time it has snowed in the town surely ?? OH well will have to sleep in then:)

coolcat 17th January 2013 17:27

I reckon the snow report on here is turning out to be one of the best Weather resources on the interweb at the moment:D
Keep up the good work peeps:bowdown:
P.s dry here and almost mild at minus two:}

HarryM1BYT 17th January 2013 17:35

The temperature here has not been above freezing since Monday, -6.7 last night. The snow has been threatening all day today and seriously started around 4pm as the temperature rose to -3C. We have above 4 cm settled at the moment, I'm guessing it will be much deeper by tomorrow morning.
