Hi think this mite help. http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...4&d=1398099788

The hole on the backplate is the size of the stub axle so clearly too small to pass over the hub.

and remember - make sure you fit the handbrake mechanism to the back plate before you refit the hub.. its a pain in the a$$ if you don't....

As confirmed above, you do indeed. Bit of a pain, but with a bit of luck it'll all come apart relatively easily.
One I helped with was a doddle, the other was a nightmare. :D |

How do I heat it up?

A hair dryer combined with a drop of oil might do it.
If you are careful and CONFIDANT use a small butane gas burner like you would for plumbing with copper pipes and solder. However don't overdo the heat with this method.----------- |

Now that i know heating the tube can be done safely then in future i might try it. Originally my intention had been to weld a new piece of plate over the holes where the pins pulled through but when i couldnt get the handbrake cable out i gave up and bought new backplates, at which point cutting the tube seemed easiest. In any case if you do cut it, then make sure only to cut through the outer tube and not damage the inner. As said, once you are half way through it gets weak enough to snap off. |
