ABS Problem

OK ,My ABS light has come on when driving.

If you stop the car, switch of and then restart the car the ABS light will come on when the ignition is on and will then go out when the engine is started and will remain out until you drive the car forward and then the ABS light will come on.

The speedo is working OK and the brakes seem to be OK although I have not tried them on a loose surface to see if the ABS kicks in.

What is the first thing to check out and what checks can I do to sort the problem.TIA.

Could be one of the sensors that does NOT operate the speedo.

'No signal' which then puts on the dash light.----

I understand that if the speedo works then it cannot be the front O/S sensor. So it must be one of the others ,So is there a simple test to pin point which one ?

HI John.
No simple test but my bet is on the rear OS sensor or bearing, having rust on the sensor/& or the bearing, wheel off, caliper off, drum disc off and check.

Before doing the above you can ask to use the clubs ABS pulse sensor link below, plug it in and turn the wheel to check out the increments ;) or a T4 session to cut out the guess work.

Or given your location, get yourself a copy of Toaf which will also cut out the guess work.
