Weedy Windscreen Washer Jets :-(
Whenever I activate the windscreen washer jets water just dribbles out of the nozzles on the bonnet. At first I thought I was just low on washer fluid but its full and I can clearly hear the motor working which gives a nice healthy whir rather than a feeble noise. Any ideas?
One thing to note is that I've recently had the front bumper off to repair the drivers side headlight (see link below) and am wondering whether I may have trapped/kinked the pipe that runs from the fluid reservoir without realizing. Has anyone ever known this to be a problem? http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=91147 |
That's possible but also the little filter is prone to blocking, pull the pump out of the bottle & remove the rubber seal (also the filter) you'll most likely find it's full of slime, clean it out & pop it back together

Any links to that? Sounds a much more attractive option than pulling my bumper off :-)

There will be somewhere but basically pull the wheelarch liner back & you should be able to reach it ok...........might be easier with the little triangular access panel removed

Replied on the MG Rover forum... ;)
As below: From experience I'd say that your washer bottle pump is full of gunk and the bottle may be gunked up as well. It's a bumper off jobby again IIRC but you may be able to get acces with wheel off and wheelo arch liner out The pup just pulls out so rinse it under very hot water until it runs free and clear Rinse the bottle out whilst the pumps out with boiling water as it's sat in the car and watch all the gunk come out; it's fairly nasty! May be worth sanatising it as well so some very hot water with bicarb of soda and either lemon juice or white vinegar (not a massive amount) will suffice. Put the pump back in and run some hot water through the pipes and washer jets until they run well again and then top up with good windcreen washer Job done http://forums.mg-rover.org/images/smilies/biggrin.gif You dont need a how too really; have a look at the washer bottle and you'll see how easy it is to sort Just get the wheel off and the srch liner out of the way and it's all clear as day IIRC |
Did mine following this "how to" and accessed it via the wheelarch liner
(NB, the "how to" comes under "engine and technical", but oddly does not seem to appear in the list when you bring up that section - I found it by a keyword search  ) |

This was the 'how to' I used on my ZT 120 a year or so back :D Takes about 30mins all together if you go down the route I did with all the rinsing etc... |
Ah brill Ill give that a go later - might take the bumper off though TBH as I need to sort out my non opening bonnet to :-(
