Windscreen washer resevoir warning light.

Hello,

The low fluid warning light comes on when the engine is first started, then goes out after a few minutes and stays out. I had thought at first that there was a leak - not so sure now. Do you think there could be a problem with the sensor? The warning light should stay on if the washer water level gets low, should it not?

Many thanks,

David.

It should be on for 4 seconds when it is initially activated, and also at start up and shut down.
It should not stay on all the time.

Mine does the very same thing.I've taken off the wiring to the Pump And sensor and cleaned the connections to no avail.

When I had the front end off to replace the alternator on the missus's diesel a couple of years back, on re fitting the warning light now stays on for a few minutes.
I checked the usual connections but they were fine but it was rather strange that before it never gave any problem and even today it stays on just for a few minutes.
On my V6 it works OK

Mine started doing it after I took the pump off to clean the filter about 5 mths ago.

The low washer level warning light should not stay on, only for 4 seconds each time you start up or shut down.

Sorry to ask the obvious but is the bottle full ? If the level is low they do stay on for a few minutes before going out ( must be so it doesn't bug you!) If the level is full and it's still doing this , it may be a faulty sensor or a break in the wiring. I had this fault a couple of years back and it was the pins on the sensor had corroded and also corroded the multiplug so i took a sensor and the multiplug and some of the harness from a scrapper and cut and soldered it back into the loom. At the time it came as a suprise that when you twist and remove the sensor ,no water comes out! Anyway it's been perfect for years now!:D

Ha, ha, yes I filled it up, could not believe how much it takes to fill up the resevoir! However, think I overdid it as the water ran off through the overflow, I'm guessing. I'm rather convinced that there is a leak, but just went out to inspect the ground under the wheel arch and it's bone dry, I started the car and the warning light went out, the washer jets are working fine. Will see how things go from here Thanks to all for your contributions.

David.
