I ordered some bolts for my car, only wanted one but got 3 different lengths.
Being a fool I got bolts where the unthreaded part is too long. Totally my fault.:mad:

Just rung the place and they have had to go and measure the unthreaded length of some shorter bolts.
I decided on 2 lengths but they only have one length in stock. No problem they say we will get you one in. Yes, just one, that's good enough in itself as they don't stock the length, its not a standard size but here is the bit that makes their customer service fantastic. They will post the 2 bolts FOC.

Thinking back to school...

Am I right in thinking bolts have a partly threaded shank and set screws are threaded all the way up?

Or is it the other way round?

Had a similar experience on Monday. Daughter’s Tourer was in for rear brake pipes replacement following MoT failure. Got them to knock-up an extra set incase one of the other 75s need them (thanks for the tip Brian). Went to pick-up the car, paid the bill and found that they’d taken the trouble to take the car across town to the local MoT station, got it inspected, new certificate, all without being asked or anything added to the bill. Over and beyond.

Strictly speaking, it's neither. The difference is defined by the parts they hold together. Bolts always use nuts. Screws use a treaded hole in one of the parts, ot cut their own thread.
