Fuel tank Leak advise please.
Hiya all how's everyone doing hope your all keeping okay. :cool:
Need some advise please. Today I could see the rainbow and the lovely smell of petrol fumes. My fuel tank has decided too spring a little leak :( Do one job and other appears lol. Only had the escort on the road a week and its already starting test my patience. I don't really want too spend anymore then I have too already spent £300 on the car and I'm not too sure if I'll keeping it long term. Truth is time too get out there I'll be a Rover 75 owner again soon after xmas after a making a deal with my good friend Andy aka trikey. :D I might be selling the escort after getting the 75 which I really do want and I can carry out my top secret project highly classified level 10 security clearance. ;) Without having too replace the fuel tank and sender unit is there anything I can use too patch up this very thin crack which is on the seam of the fuel tank. Can't put more then a tenner or it will leak. |
If I start removing it.
Its going too open a can of worms everything is pretty much corroded. |
There are repair kits and repair puttys available but if the underside is that corroded your biggest problem might be getting the area clean and rust free enough for the stuff to adhere.

Fuel tank leak
Many years ago I got told by an old engineer that I worked with, cattaloy, filler is best, I ran over something with our then mg metro and it put a perfect 5 pence hole in bottom of tank and used filler and didn't even cover hole just filled it as a temp measure to get to work on the Monday and 2 years later was still holding:}
Did the seam on a mates rover 214 and that was perfect for years, another mates seat Marbella (fiat panda) side & seam lasted years, the trick is it must be fully dry and I cleaned it back to bare metal to see the holes and show others that will appear, Done a few motor bike tanks same way, hope this helps :} |
