iPhone to Galaxy S4

Hi all, I have been an Apple user for quite a few years, and I cant fault how things just work!

My phone contract has just come up, and I am happy with my iPhone4, but they have sent me an S4 on an unlimited tariff for only £22 a month!

Bearing in mind I have an iPad, and I like how the photostream system works, I do use Dropbox though.

I know on paper, the S4 is far superior, I'm not really asking which is best, I am asking whether moving to a Samsung was practical for you?

Thanks
Simon

The better the devil you know Simon. I'm more than happy with Apple products. The same as you I'm a iPad and iPhone user. I have a decent unlimited tariff and I'm more than happy with the service provided.

I went from an I phone 4 to an s3 I like the s3 but the I phone had a better screen, I can't read my emails in sunlight the battery life is worse but other than that its a good phone, but I'll probably go back to I phone next time

I have an Iphone 4 and Galaxy S3. Far prefer the S3, much better phone, much better quality. The picture and video quality is miles better on the S3. two things I prefer on the Iphone though: 1. easier to use with one hand and 2. the key pad is more accurate on the Iphone :)

Its a different universe. With Apple everything is central, its all controlled, easy, but impersonal, inflexible, and your stuck with what you have.

With Android you can achieve all the same things and more, but it might require a little more set up. Its much more open, much more flexible, but does require more user input because of the level of choice.

What are you wanted to do? Maybe some Android users could help you out?

I use the iPad and iPhone, both are connect to 3 email accounts.

1) MS Exchange for work email
2) Gmail for personal
3) 75-ZT.com for magazine work

I use the iPad to draw on quite a lot, browse the web, play the odd game, track my expenses.

I have dropbox, which I pay for, as I have about 25gig of files floating about, Dropbox is also connect to my home PC and work laptop.

I use the iPhone for phonecalls/texting and iMessage as all the kids (4) and missus are iPhone users, but they all have good contracts with loads of messages.

I do take quite a lot of photos on the iPhone, then use the photo on the pad for sketching, and illustrations

My contacts also sync between, iPhone, iPad, Laptop, Home PC which is important to me.

I do subscribe to a few magazines on the iPad, and rarely use the phone for reading on, I do use the iPhone for music, and have a docking station on my Hifi, although it does have a USB socket.

I also use Navfree UK on the iphone for a satnav.

Think thats about it.

The more I type, the more I think the S4 will go up for sale!

Being so heavily invested in Apple is a problem, and its the way Apple want it, but millions do break away every year. Its why apples market share has dropped by over half in 18 months.

Having a Google account will sync all contacts, apps, pictures etc between your devices. Picasa is part of Google and can organise, sync and edit your photos and videos across multiple devices.

Instead of iMessage you can use Whatsapp or sign up for a Google+ account (now the worlds second largest social network), and you can message through that. It will also sync pictures and videos.

The S4 camera is superior to the iPhones.

There are magasines on Google Play as well, but you cant tranfer subscriptions across platforms, any of them.

Google maps on Android has navigation and is far better than the Apple solutions. Of course there is also Navfree and TomTom.

Thanks for the post, I think you've just settled it for me, its going up for sale, or sending it back.

Sounds like I need to switch reliance to Google, instead of Apple, and so far they have done alright by me.

I went from iPhone 3GS to Samsung Galaxy S4. I gave it about a month but I just hated it, so flogged it and bought a 4, and I couldn't be happier.

I kept my 3GS for 3 years and will probably keep my 4 until it dies. :)

I'm not a brand snob by any means (after all I drive an MG ;) ), but the iPhone just works.
