V6 190 won't start - Fuel pump?
Long story short! MG ZT 190 will not start. Turning over. Appears to be no fuel (pressing the schrader valve releases no pressure). I have about 11.4 volts at the pump when turning it over. I have fitted new seal and orange clip to fuel filter.
I am stuck! Long version here: http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=233500 HELP!! |
Does the pump run at ignition on? Listen at the filler cap while your Haynes assistant tuns it on.
If the pump runs for a few seconds then stops, I'd say you still have FFS. Check the seal again, because it's fiddley to get right. TC |
Thanks for the reply. I've checked FFS 4 times now! :)
I can't hear the pump even with my ear pressed against it... |
Connected the pump directly to the battery and can confirm that it is not working....
|
That would explain everything.
Clearly, petrol pumps do have a lifespan and maybe reports of failure will increase. There have been a few already. TC. |
Replacement fuel pump fitted, opted for a used complete unit for ease and wa indeed an easy fix. All working fine now :)

Thanks for the update. Well fixed.

Hello all.
My Dad's 190 has a failed fuel pump. I'm looking to get him a replacement Siemens pump from Leader Specialist components on ebay. Just a bit nervous about removal and fitting as the Haynes manual makes it sound quite challenging. Has anyone fitted a replacement before, and is it possible for an enthusiast to have a crack? Any points to watch for, and instructions to follow greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ben. :} |

Hi T-cut.
The pump has been making a lower tone noise for a few months now. The car wouldn't start yesterday, so my Dad called out the AA. A technical tap was performed on top of the fuel pump which prompted the car to start. My Dad drove straight to my house, but when he went to leave, the car wouldn't start again. No noise from the fuel pump at all. Performed a similar technical tap, upon which the pump grumbled. The car started but only ran for a matter of seconds. Tried to start again, and no action from the pump. The fuel filter has been secured with the orange clip. |
