can anyone help please

OMG. what have i done to me headlight :duh: ithought i would have a go at cleaning them, and i've made it wussa!! i read on here that maybe it's only a film that's sprayed on to protect it,(here's hoping) does anyone know? i know 1 member used 800 grit , then 1200, and it looked good, i used 1000 but it's a mess, but maybe i have to rub harder, but i'm scared (what a doughnut):D

Have you been sanding dry or wet? Do you have a rubbing compound to smooth things out.

hi darkxs, i used wet&dry 1000 grit, never got far enough for compound stopped in my tracks. jonno:}

Only option left it to use 1200 to smooth it out then compound and lastly seal the light when done.

You haven't said , but you need to use it wet :} Slightly soapy water is favourite .

There is a film over them... I used a upvc plastic cleaner on mine it burnt the top laquer off looked horrible... I took them to a spray shop and they buffed them for me 20 squid per headlight thought I had ruined my xenons all ok now :duh:

Try this

Up to the point you need the car polish or duraglit then it looks like frosted glass, don't panic...

The only other thing I will say, if you have stone chips (deeper than 0.1mm deep) then you will need to get the lens reground properly, if you do not keep the thickness even you can effect the beam shape...

thanx for the replies chaps, so onwards & upwards is the only way. no stonechips on light ,all's not lost as i have some xennons i can use but really wasn't bothered i was going to sell them on the forum, but needs as must:D

There isnt a film over them, its just moulded plastic, the film everyone talks about is fading of the surface to to degradation from UV rays.
