An excellent thread Mr Rovex. Could it be made a sticky?

A great write up, thank you.
I've never really put too much thought into car cleaning before as I've had new or nearly new cars and my collection of Autoglym products has always been fine.
Since looking at older cars that might need a bit of paint restoration I've been delving into the world of detailing. Suffice to say, or a newbie like myself, it's a complete minefield so this guide is very useful.
When I take collection of my 75 tourer in Royal Blue, it will need a bit of attention to the paint. There are no deep scratches, just plenty of surface ones, so I've thought about trying the G3 scratch remover and paint restore products, any thoughts on these?

Excellent write up RovexCDTI  Everything you need to know :D Thank you very much.

I will expand it as and when i get the time. There is a lot more to add, such as trim, rubber and plastic treatments.

Thanks for a great post and look forward to the additions in due course, it really does help to clear up a lot of the confusion around the various products on the market.

Sealent

After washing the silver 75 and soaking in Iron x, i followed your advice Mr.Rover CDTi and used a layer of Menzerna SF4000 followed by 4 layers of Poorboys White Diamond Glaze and the beast looks brilliant. Should i now seal with FK1000P?

Definitely seal it with something yeah. FK1000P is as good as anything on silver!

Light thin coats, less is more with a top coat. It should then bead up really well when it rains, like this:

You are right, its very confusing. I will buy the FK1000. Would the G-Techniq stuff enhance it even more?

rovexCDTi 8th July 2012 16:24

Mmmm. not really. FK1000P is as good as any of their conventional sealants, and G-Techniq C1 is tricky to apply and needs totally product free paint because its one of those nano/ceramic types. You could use any decent Quick Detailer on FK1000P but Finish Kare make one for it FK #425.
