Rover 75 rear bootlid badge

Having noticed my 2000 MY boot badge was getting a bit tatty, I naturally looked to buy one on eBay. I gave up bidding for the last one around £25, then called Rimmer Brothers to find they're under a tenner! Anyway, it's now arrived in the post and I wonder if anyone can advise on fitting - is it a straight 'pull out', or is there a retaining clip on the underside of the boot lid?

The badges are usually stuck on using double sided sticky pads. I understand that using a hair drier to gently heat the adhesive on the pads is usually enough to loosen it.

Double sided foam tape, with a couple of locating lugs to keep it straight. I pried mine carefully with a screwdriver that has no sharp edges to damage anything.

Note: if you use a screwdriver and scratch your paint, don't blame me. It's not a reccomendation.:D

To remove the old one use something that isn't sharp to gently prise the badge. I tried the heat it with a hairdryer method and after half hour of trying gave up as it remained just solid as when I started.

If I were fitting a new one I'd put a bead of clear silicone sealant around the edge as water ingress is what causes the laquer on the badge to delaminate.

I would also be inclined to give the new badge a few more coats of laquer to help protect it as it's only got a very thin coat on it.

A Credit card and hairdryer combination works well.
(use the wife's credit card just in case you break it)

Please be aware that not all bootlids have the holes for the locating studs; mine hasn't. I found this out after the repairs following my rear-end shunt in June. Repairers left off the badge, probably because there were no locating holes to remind them something should be there.

Later 75s don't have a badge in this position, so an easy mistake to make. They may, in fact have used a later bootlid in place of the damaged original rather than repaired it. When the new badge arrived at the repairers, it had locating lugs which they had to grind off !!

Ignore the prise it off, but watch the paintwork ideas!

drill small hole just through centre of badge, heat badge with hairdryer, prise off from centre using hooked tool.
Dont worry about drilling too deep, "its under the badge"

You can't damage paint this way. Dave:lol:
