Barclays
Does anyone else find the customer service diabolical?

I might just have to switch, trouble is I cant be ar$ed with the hassle. |
When I first started work we were all introduced to Barclays, and once married we both stuck with them. Due to Barclays inaction on a business deal we lost our house.
I joined Nationwide about 1980 and have found them outstanding; their online Banking is very secure. Ask any Banking institution you consider how they will do the change for you, good luck. |
Have a good contact at Barclays

Last switch to Barclays had to take ID into local branch, yes we still have one!, and had great attention from a personal banker. She gave me her card with email and phone contact details, and if ever I need support or explanation, I just get in touch, she always responds very quickly. Saves long waits on phone to a call centre in God knows where. While she is there I won’t switch away as this level of support is really worth more that a few quid to switch. Might be worth contacting your nearest branch and checking if there is a personal banker available. I am sure the fact that I drive a Rover 75 is a factor!! |

I was with them for 30+ years before I switched. With the Current Account Switch Scheme it is no hassle. |
With banks loyalty means nothing now, apart from giving the banks a chance to move you to derisory interest rates and poor deals. You’ve got to keep changing to get the best deals, and even then deals are usually limited to a year or so before it is best to move on. I find the whole thing quite tiresome, but as CH said MSE is a good source to find the best deals of the moment.

I have had to take control of my mum!s bank account as she has mild dementia and has forgotten that you don’t give bank details over the phone. As a result she has been scammed into paying direct debits to bogus insurance policies that she doesn’t need anyway. I recently cancelled a d d but according to Barclays the “agent” controls the payment not the bank. So if I cancel the pay, the scammer can just set it up again for next month and take it again. I am waiting fir my power of attorney document to arrive and then I’m closing the account and transferring it to another to prevent any more scumbags taking her money .

Disgusting, I sympathise. With the Covid thing keeping me WFH more, I’ve been surprised at the number of scam calls. Amazon, BT, your ‘bank account’ etc. :(

I was with Barclays for 17 years but after a mix up on a non payment, their fault, I switched to NatWest. Very helpful staff.

My biggest gripe with Barclays is how they have closed the vast majority of their branches. We have one branch left now here in Derby,in the city centre.I normally travel to a nearby small town as it's easier and free to park. They are not on there own in closing branches though, the other high street banks are doing the same.Worth remembering that you can pay into a Barclays business or private bank account at any post office.
