Do I need to change the boot solenoid lock?
In the frost the locks on my doors and boot lid (facelift) play up. I can fix the doors by hot water to warm up the door skin and the door locks then work fine.
But the boot lid will often not lock closes when cold and when I press the key to open the facelift keyless boot lid the solenoid clicks back and fore wildly and very noisy. Should I try a different solenoid lock unit ? Or is it a cold weather issue and the next solenoid will be the same? |
Called machine gunning, just wind the bump stops out a bit

Thanks. The bump stops is that the receiver on the body of the car? Or something on the boot lid ?

Open the boot top right and left corners ,just unscrew a 1/4 turn

It’ll not help it latch again once open though...... had that on both my 2 saloons and it’s very frustrating. Won’t latch no matter how enthusiastically you try to persuade it. I’ve driven down dual carriageways to work before with the boot unlatched then left it in the works car park. Always fine when the temperature rises. Only way I’ve found is to liberally spray the mechanism with wd40 or the like.

Boot solenoid/lock
Does anyone know exactly what causes the "machine gunning" and is it the lock unit itself or the separate switch that actually makes the noise? My Mk1 ZT has been doing this intermittently lately. There must be an electrical cause so I can't see how adjusting the rubber stops could make any difference.

Because the stops are wound in too far, the boot mechanism thinks its closed, so keeps releasing, aka, machine gunning. When the stops are wound out correctly, it pops the lid far enough to open fully.

Wind the stops out 1/4 turn at a time until the "machine gunning" stops.
Did this when I first got the car 2 years ago and been OK ever since. |
I had the same issue with my very recently bought 75.
My solution was to replace the gas struts of the boot lid. 25 GBP and 3 minutes of work. Now when I press the button, it unlocks just once, because the boot opens a little bit because of the new gas struts. |
