rimmer bros front tyre protectors

thinking of buying a pair of these as last week i had a broken :shrug:front spring that went through a new tyre . my question is this .. do these protectors fit all 75 saloon models from 1999 onwards and has anybody got these fitted and how good are they rgds mark

Well , they didn't work when my front spring broke ! The tyre still got shredded . However , they don't cost much and they only need to work once to make it a good idea so on balance I'm still in favour of fitting them :}
They fit all models , but I have heard that later versions or replaced dampers may not have the fitting holes pre-drilled :shrug: Perhaps someone else can confirm ?

The mounting hole were there in my 2004 facelift saloon.

I've fitted them to my 05 and my 99. The holes were there on both but had to dig the crud and rust out first! They are different sizes too, so get the correct bolts in the correct holes.;)

They will fit all models, all years.
They prevent tyre damage in the majority of cases. Certainly better to be with than without.
Thankfully, mine haven't had any experience to judge their effectiveness. It's a bit like an insurance policy. You hope you don't need to use it.

The kits come with the correct size self-tapping bolts and there's the MGR Recall notice here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/wkash1...tions.pdf/file

Here's an old thread with a comment from someone at MGR who was actually involved in their development (norfie): https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...ad.php?t=99965

This happened to me when I was setting off home in the 75 from holiday in Germany. May not be relevant but it had been warm and overnight there was a light frost; we only travelled a few metres.

It was a blessing as I had been pushing quite hard on the autobahn while we were there. Although tere was no tyre damage. I will double check now on the protectors!

It has also happened to me with a Mondeo and a Toyota, don't get down on MGR.

I found a broken front spring on the tourer a couple of months ago and it must have been broken for a while but thanks to the tyre protectors no damage had been done whilst we drove around in ignorance. I immediately got the car into the garage for repair :eek:

When I bought my connie a couple of years ago the first thing I bought were the protectors. I was about to go for a drive when the parcel arrived so I thought that for the time it takes to fit ,I'll put them straight on. I jacked up the nearside first and the bottom of the spring was sitting on the tyre after breaking during the night so that was lucky. Fortunately I had a spare strut with a good spring to swap over.

Having experienced a broken front spring taking out a tyre at 50 mph I wouldn't want to have the same thing happen again. :mad:

I bought a pair when I first got my 2001 CDT, based on threads on here. When they arrived, I realised it already had them fitted. Still got them, somewhere!

I just ordered some to put on my mk2 zt-t...
Gonna do some work on it as it is in winter storage...change gear oil,prt termostat and mount the protectors:}
