The 'Interchangeable Parts Thread'

After an excellent discovery by milosnikolic a while back about Inner and Outer Tie rods being the same as those of the VW Sharan & Ford Galaxy, a suggestion was put forward by Greendiver to have a seperate section for reference as parts become harder to find.

So this sticky is just for that :} If you know of any items that are interchangeable with other vehicles, post them up here and we can build up a good list.

Lets start where the idea began with:

Bolin 18th January 2013 15:28

The later 'BMW square box' type ultrasonic interior alarm sensor is the same as on BMW E38, E39 and E46 models - note that some of those have a wider box but the sensor inside is the same. I cannot be sure about the colour match of the box though.

Most wiring connectors I believe are the same as BMW items, which may be useful if you wish to source spares from a scrapyard etc.

Dominic22 19th January 2013 13:15

The Traction Control Actuator or secondary throttle item 1 on here http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID001558, is actually a BMW part and lots cheaper second hand via BMW listings

Part number 35.41-1 163 163.2

STUBIE 19th January 2013 14:02

Remember that a lot of Rover parts can also be replaced with Land Rover ones, stick an L at the end of the part number to see if there is an equivalent and usually cheaper LR part.

A recent re-investigation into this indicates that the threaded stub on the alternative part must be reduced in length by a few mm to allow the joint to butt fully up against the inner piece. It's covered in the latter part of the milosnikolic thread.

I just fitted Inner rods....and they aren't the same...they fit, but to fit correctly(butted upto the stop)....around 3mm has to be sawn/ground off the shorter of the two threads...........

So dont expect these to fit exactly without this modification....(read to the last post in the link above)

In tank petrol fuel filter

While investigating fitting the orange clip to the later type in tank petrol fuel filter in my 75 I discovered some info that may be of use. The same type plastic filter/sender assembly was used on the Mini Cooper 2002-2006 (BMW R50/R53) under part numbers 16146757196 also made by Vaico No. V20-0717.
The paper filter comes as a kit with o rings and seals. below is a link to a site which gives an excellent instruction on replacing the paper filter, although it's a mini you will notice the similarity.

I would be very surprised if it is not as the engine is BMW and came as a crated unit to fit. You could probably pick one up at the breakers for pennies.

Dartrivet is correct with regards to the handle. The BMW part number is 51 47 7 046 771 - it's also known as a 'HANDLE' or (strangely) 'TOOL' - and it's for a BMW "3-Series Touring" 1998-2005 model (body codename E46, NOT the newer E91). Be prepared for storemen to pretend they've never heard of it, or can't find it. My man had to look it up in about 3 different books before he found it - so if you are sure to tell them the year and model, as well as the part number it'll save you time and fuss.

Ignore the fact that the drawing (if they show you it) doesn't look exactly right - the product that comes across in the bag IS right! You get top and bottom halves of the handle, plus the two screws for (in my case) £12.69. Result! :D (that price was back in 2008, mind, when I first wrote about this)

mikesmith2 is most probably right about the widths of the actual cover-sheet not matching though; I never tried those, and just needed a replacement handle (as Tourer owners may know, or will find out, if you let the sheet fly back under its own power, it will likely smash the handle, so be warned!)

Leyland Worldmaster 26th October 2013 13:01

The garage that did my tracking, and subsequently changed my rear axle trailing arm bush had trouble finding one; the cross referenced part numbers and found a BMW part was suitable. For obvious reasons, I didn't ask about exactly what the part number was. This is however of some use to those with the facilities to cross reference part numbers.

Mark2000cc 24th February 2014 08:49

On the diesel, where the top coolant hose meets the engine is a plastic fitting which bolts to the engine, this also has a rubber gasket... Rimmers want £20 delivered just for the gasket. And £50 for the plastic piece and gasket.

I just purchased the full plastic piece and gasket for £16 delivered fromiisland 4x4, it's a freelander part but identical to the MGRover part. Part number LVJ100870L:smilie_re:http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/water-ho...0l-p-8085.html

That is true of many/ all of the VW range. It is also a standard part used on many cars. A difference is that one requires a coloured bulb the other uses a built in orange filter.

I received one of these filters in a service kit but it is worth noting they are different from the one that was previously fitted in my ZT CDTi & from ones I have seen in YouTube 'how to' videos.

'Original' type (front) has plastic end fittings & clips onto the 'spigot' in the filter cap. The combined assembly is then screwed into place.

Freelander type (rear) is same overall length but 'all filter' - it drops into the housing & just gets held in place by the cap instead. Here is a comparison pic:

http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...247217a6fd.jpg

I must admit the 'original' type seems better engineered to me - are any still like this or has all production switched over to the (presumably cheaper) 'all filter' style?

Genuine MAF sensor replacement part, £76

seeing this probably is a tech topic I am posting this info in its own thread here.

After some research I located some MAF sensors that may have been the same as ours but all in theory, nothing proven - until now :).

Having just had a very nervous M5 owning mate watch me strip his MAF, and refit it, I can confirm that the M5 E39 Bosch MAF, p/n 0280217533, contains an F00C2G2029 insert, same as our cars.

SO, if this is a genuine Bosch we have a source of new genuine MAF sensors for about £76 including postage.

markyp 2nd September 2014 20:06

That's very helpful as I have just been looking on their website for a Bosch MAF 0 928 400 520 at £119 plus £5 delivery....But I made an offer through Ebay of £90.
If they do not accept this offer I will buy the BMW M5 MAF you have found..:}

okenora 2nd September 2014 20:13

Remember markyp, the MAF housing itself will not fit our cars, you will need to transfer the sensor inside it to your old housing. Give the old housing a really good clean while you are at it :)

I also accept no blame if it comes with a different sensor, that is something to argue with the supplier. A genuine new Bosch will have the correct sensor

Worth noting this will also invalidate your 2 year warranty that is given.

Good work to find that the same sensor is available in other housings and slightly cheaper the only concern I have is the warranty being voided.

You are all dead right about the Land Rover parts
We have been using many LR parts for the 75 & ZT's for a couple of years now in our workshop as they are more readily available and cheaper than genuine MG Rover.
We are always researching alternatives for our parts, as it is the only way sometimes we can keep our customers cars on the road.
I am quite happy to add items to this thread as we find more alternatives.
I will also add items which we have used and have had problems if that also helps.
If any members have problems with parts, please PM me, we are always happy to try and help.

I bought one (+ the appropriate Torx security bit - again you can order the complete housing cheaper than MG ones then swap the 'innards') & can now 100% confirm it works (having now had it double checked on a T4).

On a similar Land Rover vein - the clutch slave is the same as a Mk1 Freelander, you just need to bend the metal pipes a bit to match up with the car's:

Skullcap Powerfold Mirror Motors

For anyone out there who has skullcap type powerfold mirrors, the same motors were also used in older model Jaguar XJ and X type, plus Volvo on the old S60/V70 and XC70, they are not listed as a service item but it is something else to look out for in breakers yards

Diesel fuel filter alternative Mahle KC24

I found MAHLE KC24 as a cheap alternative for the diesel fuel filter. It is a bit smaller in diametter, so I used a rubber piece to wrap the filter arround and tighten the filter in the bracket. The thread is the same as the original.

They are similar except they have a flat slotted head instead of a crosshead.

You need a very chunky flat blade driver for them. I bought a set and will use them till they rust away, but do find the tight ones a bit difficult to use in comparison with crosshead ones, driver slips out too easily.

Just a quick note for anyone after one of these - we have some Genuine MG Expanders in (after some searching) for slightly less than £18 here:

Again, not meaning to tread on any toes - just means anyone after these can combine postage with other bits from us if needed. :)

Yes, in my opinion - we only sell the cambelt kits for the KV6 with LUC100290 instead of LUC100150.

This is because although LUC100150 are fine when fitted properly, it's very easy to mis-fit them leading to massive oil loss and engine failure.
LUC100290 are much easier to fit correctly.

HI Barry.
The ebay number above points to the Tensioner pulley in the link below and is of OE quality not original part brand is INA ?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2719925980...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I have never used one, but here below is a gates one which I should imagine would be a bit better quality again I do not know for sure. and the cost is below the £49 of the INA one.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3114903148...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Also both need to be checked against an original one before purchase

jackatesme 27th January 2017 20:02

The measurements on the Gates 1 are quite a bit smaller. That's why it would be helpful if someone had a 75 on hand to check.

Thought I'd post this on here as it may prove useful to others at some point. I snapped the connector to the headlamp washer pump on my facelift ZT when removing the hose to diagnose a fault with the non-return valve.

X-Part only supply the complete hose assembly (DNH000250) and these are £71.63 +VAT from the only supplier I could find (A E Wilcox).

However, I have found that these are made by Hella and are used on various other vehicles. The non-return valve is available from BMW for £9.11 +VAT on part number 61668361447.
https://vgy.me/3JuUki.jpg

And the pump/washer connectors (these are a 90° fitment, two on the original hose are 70° or so, but these are very similar and fit OK) are also available from BMW on part number 61678252741 for £2.00 each +VAT.

Hopefully this helps someone someday!

Problem is did the pump work and is it still working after two years ? was it an OEM pump, was it the same as Jules uses ?

ratchet 10th September 2019 14:59

Don't know if it has already been posted, a search of Jaguar, Adjuster and cog didn't throw up anything..................The headlight adjuster cogs are the same as those used on the Jaguar X type.

There is a full kit to repair x type headlights, in my case the adjusters were fine, but the cogs had gone brittle - luckily you can buy the cogs on their own.

There is also a bodge that can get you out of trouble if your cogs give up the ghost and you need a quick solution - fit a connector block to the end of the adjuster rod where the cog would normally sit

Yes that is a difficult question to answer as the OP seems to have vanished.
However that list is handy because it doesn't necessarily take you to the same make of pump the OP used.

It just lists the users of the same type of pump. Queries with any of the trade outlets to names on the list might come up with a satisfactory pump of another make.--( Maybe. Lol. )

However that list is handy because it doesn't necessarily take you to the same make of pump the OP used.

It just lists the users of the same type of pump. Queries with any of the trade outlets to names on the list might come up with a satisfactory pump of another make.--( Maybe. Lol. )

Hi, to answer your queries, yes the pump still works after 2 years & its not noisy.
Unfortunately I cannot remember the ebay seller or the brand of the pump but it was made in Germany.

R75 Driving/Fog lamps

The front Fog/Driving lamps on the Mk1 75 are the same as on the R25.
When I needed to replace one of mine which got smashed, I paid around a quarter of the asking price of a 75 one, by buying a 25 one.!!!

Front arch liner

I can't find a replacement for my front arch liners that is not second hand. Is there some bmw model that could fit on 75.

Very unlikely the liner from any other model would fit, body panel parts are unique to a model normally. One exception was the Granada and later Scorpio (frog eye), which changed the the boot and all of the front end, but retained the mid section of the Granada body.

The fuel filter for petrol models is the same as a Mini R50/R52, and probably some other BMWs.

Can be bought for £10-20 rather than the £40-50 Rimmers want.

That is useful info and would be even better if you said where.

Suspension dished washer.

It’s not hard to find the BMW dished washer (1096068) , exact same part as Rover but a different part number.

People frequently search for this item from Rimmers with no success.

However it's immediately available as a BMW part.--:D:D:D

Power steering pump

Hello Everyone!

Does the Rover 75 2.5 V6 power steering pump interchangable with the 2.0 CDTi?

Thanks,

Are you meaning this is the rear subframe failsafe washer? If it is how did you find out it was?

I got your reply via email and it confused me no end. I now see my post above is not on the thread I thought it was.

I just found out by my own investigation that if you accidentally break the white plug that goes into the brake pedal sensor switch, you can substitute a BMW one instead.
Rover 75 cable looms/harnesses are rare now, so I thought I was screwed.
But I noticed the switch had BMW moulded on it, so I put the part number into Google, and came back as a BMW brake pedal switch plug, for Rover 75 era Beemers.
I then looked on eBay, and saw two at £20 which I snapped up.
You have to study the pin holes and plug design to check it will fit the sensor.
Fitted mine, works a treat.
Now I drive a Rover 75/BMW hybrid!

Evaporator CDTi = KV6?

Hi.

Can anyone confirm or deny if the AC evaporator matrix is the same for the CDTi and the KV6 engines?

Rimmers no longer list them so I can't check the part numbers . . .

Thanks

A

You need to post this in the main forum as this is meant for giving out known facts. You will get a fast response elsewhere.-----:D

Cheers Gents.
Sorry to clutter this thread - it occurred to me after that this wasn't the best place.
Thanks for the link macafee. I'll brush up on my German and check that out!

-A

edit: saying that - The section on HVAC doesn't separate V6 & CDTi. Also I wold guess these are LHD part refs and I know this item is handed.
Good to look through though. Cheers.
