Need a free anti virus for
windows vista.
I know it is old but I have been given a free laptop for my sister. There is no money to upgrade so need free stuff. I can only find things for windows 7 and above, can you help locate something for her? thank you macafee2 |

Nick, I downloaded and installed the anti virus. I thought all went well but upon rebooting the laptop and choosing a user to log in to, the laptop seemed to lock itself.
By booting up in safe mode I think I have been able to uninstall the anti virus and the lap top has now booted up. I am no computer buff. From your link I went to a vista page, when I typed in the link on the laptop it took me to a different page. I don't know if the anti virus was different or not. I'm frightened to try again. macafee2 |

Hi macafee2
I always use Panda Free software never a problem, hope the link is ok. https://filehippo.com/download_panda_free_antivirus/ julian |
I know you say you need free, but honestly the best solution here is to pickup an OEM Windows 7 licence from eBay for less than £10 and combine with the free windows 10 download (Win7 licence keys are designed to work with 10).
That way you've got an up-to-date operating system that already has 'free' built-n antivirus. |

You will need a Windows 7 key (e.g. this)
Windows 10 can be downloaded from Microsoft here. You'll need to make a installation USB, as you're starting from Windows Vista. Install instructions are here. The exception (Important!) is that you do not enter your product key during installation - wait until it's all installed and asks you to activate. |
Doesn't this presume the new laptop to have sufficient memory to run W10 - one of the reasons I'm still using XPpro on my non-Work laptop. (?)
