Monogram Atmosphere ZT CDTI

So I thought I would start this thread to follow in pictures my journey with my latest ZT.

The car is a Diesel Auto and is the 7th ZT out of 8 finished in Monogram Atmosphere.

After a quick wash and polish this morning these are the results :D

More updates from today's work to follow...

When I went to view the car the seller informed me that the sunroof had been suffering with a leak.

This afternoon I set about trying to investigate. The main area that water had been building up was the driver side rear foot well so I decided to remove the drivers seat just to check out the carpet.

The rear was thankfully dry as the previous owner had been using some newspaper to soak up the water but the front was quite damp.

I began in the boot checking the rear sunroof drains. Both were good with no signs of leaks.

Next on to the troublesome passenger side front, no sign of leaking here and with a gentle bit of rodding no sign of any dirt build up in the drain.

On to the driver side front, the problem was immediately apparent, the drain pipe was not connected to the outlet so in effect was directing water directly in to the foot well.

Although the carpet in the front was quite damp, there were no big puddles as the sunroof had been sealed for a little while so no fresh water had got in.

I then got a bit carried away and I set about removing the carpet so as I could lay it out in the sun to dry and will be popping off tomorrow to buy some pipe connectors to fix the drain.

I’ve just done mine and found the duckbill at the end of the outlet tube under the wheel arch has welded itself shut. The rubber had hardened with age so I cut the tips off. Be worth a check

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out while I am at it :}

Wow Mark, you haven’t wasted any time :cool: I wonder whether it’s a good idea to replace the handbrake compensator while you’ve got the carpets out? Only if it needs it of course. It’s so much easier to change it when the cars like that.

What are you going to do with the dash? Keep it Walnut and change the 5 hole switch trim and ashtray to match, or revert it back to Technical Grey?

I have a R53 Mini compensator in the shed somewhere so am going to fit that whilst it is apart.

I am going to change the lower dash to walnut to match the top, I already have most of the bits in my parts collection. Never really was a fan of technical grey.

Excellent, I have a fair bit of that walnut trim here too if you are missing anything, just give me a shout and I may have it. :}

Little while since I have updated this but I have been hard at work!

The sunroof drains have been repaired and no wet in the interior during the heavy rain we have had the past couple of weeks!

One thing I did discover was that the sunroof blind clips were broken so I ordered some new ones and set about the repair.

For anybody that needs to do this, search for BMW E46 blind clips. I found a 75/ZT repair kit but it was around £62, 2 BMW clips set me back £8 on Ebay.

Next job was to update the sat nav, the original Mk3 graphics were a bit dated.

I spent a few days looking for a BMW Mk4 DVD drive and eventually got one for £40, again on Ebay.

I set about making my own custom splash screen, plenty of info on google on how to do this

I flashed the Mk4 DVD drive to the latest firmware which included the perspective view, this is a great improvement over the Mk3 in the ZT.

Unfortunately my widescreen has developed some missing pixels whilst it has been in storage but I have been reading some very interesting information on replacing the screen in the unit.

Whilst I was on the interior I replaced the gear selector, a bargain at £5, thank you Rimmer Bros!

One real bugbear of mine was how awful the brakes were on the ZT, so I set about acquiring the parts for an upgrade to 190 brakes. I got brand new discs, pads and hoses, I then acquired a set of 4 190 calipers. At the moment I am only bothered about the fronts, so I ordered a rebuild kit from Biggred and set about the work.
