Announcing The Owners Club 25th National Meet

on Sunday 6th May 2018

The Club's 25th National Meet will be held on
Sunday 6th May 2018
at
Hollycombe Steam In The Country
Iron Hill
Liphook
Hampshire
GU30 7LP

10am - 5pm

Situated on the Hampshire and Sussex border,
Hollycombe is far more than just a working steam museum,
it's a place where the past comes to life. From the atmosphere of a traditional fairground,
to riding on their steam railways, or wandering through the woodland gardens,
there's something for all ages. Some highlights include...

The Golden Gallopers
https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/images/hollycombe4.JPG

The three-abreast Steam Galloper, built around 1912 by Tidman of Norwich,
with 24 horses, six cockerels and two chariots for those who don't relish the galloping motion.
It is driven by a steam centre engine, also Tidman, and the revolving pillars,
which are believed to be the only ones still operating, are driven by a Tidman organ engine.

Razzle Dazzle
https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/images/hollycombe9.JPG

Built by the Howcroft Carriage & Wagon Works around 1906,
the Razzle Dazzle is regarded as the world's first 'white knuckle' ride.
It is the earliest ride to use both rotational and tilting motion
and it was from this that many of the modern rides were developed.
Hollycombe's Razzle Dazzle is the world's only surviving example.

The Big Wheel
https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/ima...llycombe10.JPG

The 50ft tall Big Wheel was built in 1914 and was purchased by Hollycombe
in 1990 from a showman in South Wales. The ride is driven by a Clayton & Shuttleworth
portable steam engine which was built in 1911 and exported to Portugal
where it drove an olive press and was fired on olive stones and wood.
Because if this, it is named Olive.

The Haunted House
https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/images/hollycombe5.JPG

The world's oldest haunted house was built by Orton & Spooner about 1915,
probably for Flora Collins. It then went to John Thomas Cooper,
President of the London section of the Showman’s Guild, and then to ‘Pepper’ Biddell.
It was acquired for Hollycombe in 1991 and is a popular attraction
with its cleverly designed interior. Parents get a chance to be at their scariest!

Steam Yacht Neptune
https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/images/hollycombe3.JPG

Steam Yacht 'Neptune' was built in 1911 by showman Fred Sowden of Bradford.
This single Steam Yacht was originally operated by pulling ropes underneath
but was later converted to steam power. A later owner adapted a Burrell steam roller
to power the ride which arrived at Hollycombe in 1963 and was the only ride to be
steam-hauled to the famous Shottesbrooke Park Great Steam Fair in 1964.

Quarry Railway
https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/images/hollycombe6.JPG

The narrow gauge Quarry Railway, is a 2 foot gauge steam railway
running for approximately 1.5 miles through woodland and fields.
The journey starts at the station by the visitor centre, and travels through
pretty woodland until it reaches the old sandstone quarry.

Garden Railway
https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/images/hollycombe7.JPG

The railway is a continuous loop of about one third of a mile
and the tracks are set at 7.25 inch gauge. You will be amazed by the power
of the tiny locomotives as they haul both adults and children around the scenic route.

What's the cost?
We have arranged a special club discount for members to attend the day of
£10 per person
(the usual price being £16.00 adult, £12.00 children (3-15), and £14.00 seniors).
The money is payable to the venue on the day.

Possibly also on the Saturday...
As our National Meet is being held over the May bank holiday,
we are planning to organise a road run the day before perhaps to
Brooklands Museum
if there is sufficient up take. Please let us know if you'd be interested.

Where to stay and camping?
For those wishing to camp or bring a touring caravan,
we have a grassed area set aside at Hollycombe
where you can pitch from Saturday to Bank Holiday Monday
for a nominal charge of £10.

For those looking to stay in a hotel,
the following hotels are nearby at affordable prices

No worries Bri, I'll add them both now

Teflon 1st December 2017 17:25

Just to confirm that, although going to the National, I won't be on the road run. Brooklands is just down the road from me though, so I may well pop along and see who I can spot! :D
