BMW saloon question
 

I’ve made a huge error. Disconnected the battery in the boot of my wife’s BMW and closed the boot. No power means no access to the boot. Is there something I’m missing? Another method of access? The handbook does not give a solution so I’m a bit stumped.:D

There is normally a point under the bonnet for connecting jump leads, you could connect a battery to this via leads which would hopefully allow you to open the boot :). What model BMW is it? I swear most of them have a key slot in the boot (sometimes its in the plinth to make it look tidy)

E90. 318i petrol saloon. 2009. I’ve just had the brother in law round with jump leads and no joy there. My jump leads are also in the boot!

A quick google of bmw e90 jump start points shows that there are a couple of terminals on the left side under the bonnet.

Did that once on the Volvo and for reasons I won't go into the keys would not operate the locks ;)

If you can't access the bonnet catch then the other way to get in is as follows:
You need an assistant really ;)
Jack up the front of the car.
Remove undertray, then see if it's possible to access the terminal on the starter motor if so you may need to make a stout insulated extension such as a straightened wire coat hanger wrapped in insulating tape.
Connect the earth jump lead to a suitable point.
Connect the positive jump lead to the wire extension and touch the main positive starter terminal.
As you touch the terminal, get your assistant to unlock the boot with the catch or remote if it allows remote unlocking.
As soon as the boot is released remove the contact with the starter

Thanks for the response.
I’ve attached jump leads under the bonnet and tried that method. Car was totally dead. There was power to the leads as I sparked them to check.
Called an auto electrician I know and he was surprised that method did not work.
He said he had one with the same problem a while back and his only solution was to remove the rear seat and open the boot.
Looks like toil and sweat will solve this problem.

Forgot to say, called BMW in Cheltenham and they said if the jump leads don’t work I’ll have to break in!

What model? the E46 has a keyhole up by the number plate lights

The E90 also has a key hole under the number plate lights from memory.:}
