In simple terms can someone explain the uses of compounds, cutting etc.

I want to get a high shine on my zt so am prepared for elbow grease:}

Everyone will have different views on this Simon, so here's mine:D If you look at your paint with a torch, or look at a reflection of the sun, you'll see tiny swirls, like spiders webs, all over, worst case, :o then you need a cutting compound to remove them. I use Meguires Ultimate Compound, also Farecla G3. Loads of different ones on the market. Then you need to polish the surface with a polish of your choice, followed by wax, then a sealant, Super Resin Polish is one. Hope that helps a bit:shrug:

To get the shine is all in the prep. So, getting the paint super clean and getting those fine scratches/swirls out. A machine polisher will give you the best results that can't be achieved by hand. As said above, a cutting compound will be needed to help achieve this followed by a finishing polish and then wax added to protect it. But, it's very important to get that paint clean so a thorough wash, remove tar stains, iron deposits and clay it.

If you put super resin over wax you will remove the wax. Its a filler polish with a little cut, an ideal base for wax to go over.

I tend to use either Meguairs Ultimate Compound or the Autoglym Super Resin Polish after washing and drying my ZTT. Then I usually apply a coat of good quality wax afterwards such as Colinite 476S or a good Carnuaba Wax followed by Autoglym Exrra Gloss Protector and I have always been pleased with the results, as with my ZTT being British Racing Green ot seems to show swirl marks a bit more easily. I do not complete this process every wash, just as and when any marks become more noticeable.

This is my ZTT after washing and an pplication of wax last Sunday. Since then my ZTT has travelled on the Ferry to the Isle Of Wight from home and my ZTT will more than likely go to the POL on Saturday and the Beach Lawns Car Show in Weston Super Mare on Sunday without being washed, I will just apply a coat of waterless wash on Friday afternoon and wash ky ZTT again on Monday.

Stunning car. When you wash do you use the two bucket method? This reduces wash marring and swirl marks a lot.

I used to only use one bucket, but since reading about using two buckets on the forum, I bought a second bucket. I also find that once my ZTT has had an application of the Meguairs Ultimate Compound or Autoglym Super Resin Polish followed by a coat of wax and Extra Gloss Protector it does tend to last a while which is why I then just apply a coat of wax after washing my ZTT inbetween completing a full paintwork treatment.

My ZTT is also used everyday so I always like to make sure the paintwork has a good protective layer applied to it

You should put the EGP on before the wax, as EGP is a sealant and you should wax over the top of the EGP, and Autoglym do not recommend adding a coat of wax over EGP
