As we are international in membership, I would be grateful, as well as many other members who do not understand French, if we could please use English as the medium of international communication, as in the world of radio and airline/marine communication/movements ;)

English is my second language, but is the most understandable language world-wide, as such I use, even with my Welsh bretheren, on forums :D

Besides, members who use any on-line translator could cause a "hiccup" by posting a post whereby their meaning was misconstrued by a "translator". :(

70% of Human communication is via body language.... so introduce electronic translators into a text environment and we are in the mire ;);)
Just a thought...... to improve international relationships :D:D

And which particular club rule states that English must be used to write on the Forum?
English may be your second language (by choice, and that is your prerogative), but surely on the Overseas forum members should be able to converse in their own language if they do not posess sufficient expertise in English?
Perhaps that is why input is fairly low here.

Hi, I'm living in Morbihan. Imported 75CDTi tourer no problem. Anyone needing a compliance certificate can get it from their local DREAL for 67€ (in 2012). Ask for a "Demande d'Identication". Some outfits will quote much more than this and not all their certificates are acceptable to the authorities.

Well bonjour mon ami!

We live in the Drome (26) near Lus La Croix Haute. We've lived here since 2007 and imported our 2002 MG ZT-T 160+ when we came as the price of 2nd hand French cars is ludicrous. We decided for the cost of importing vs selling in the UK and buying here we'd have a far superior car.

I don't think I'm a huge club/forum user but I do find it FANTASTIC for obtaining help.

If I can be of any help to les membres Francais I'm happy to do so.

How did you get on ??? Get it registered OK ???

Colvert. :D

pletevl 5th June 2014 16:24

Non,

Couldn't get the "quetis" from the local tax office, to say she was dumb and didn't know what she was on about is an understatement. She even said, and I quote, "United Kingdom isn't in Europe is it ? " !

She wanted the V5 log book to be translated, wouldn't accept my "carte de sejour" because the address isn't up to date, but it's a Permanent carte so no need to update it. And to top it all off, said I had to go and get the car controlled "aux mines".

I just wanted to kill there and then.

Ended up going to the tax office in Nancy, that started off as a joke too.

The uk log book is in my name, at my mothers address. That was a mistake. They just couldn't understand how I could have 2 addresses, one in the uk and one in France.

It went on for over an hour until the chef de service was called, he said I had to see "les douanes" !?!?!

To cut a long story short as they say, he phoned les douanes and was basically told off for being thick and stupid and to deliver the quetis.

I can now go to the prefecture. I can't see it going smoothly.

Wish me luck.

Pete.

. . . . I don't really speak french either, but I'm not far from the border, i.e. the nearest French town is Sierck-les-Bains, where we occasionally pass through on the sighsteeing route to Metz. We were thinking of heading towards Paris this weekend, but after a family debate we will probably go to Dijon instead. If ever you're heading this way . . . . .

This is just a little rich. The only place English is not well understood - IMHO - is in the country that spawned the language. It's fascinating to observe the greater mass of a nation that has so influenced world development at odds with its own tongue. Naturally, you being a Welshman, I wouldn't include you in that "mass". Diolch yn fawr. ;)

We sometimes take a break there on the way back from a family visit down south. First time I remember thinking "this is maybe not my best idea" as we drove through the industrial outskirts; but once we saw Place Stanislas all such thoughts were allayed. A grand spot!

Amities

We have plans to retire to France in 2021, to live in the Aude near Carcassonne. We already have a holiday home there and we take our holidays there. Currently we hire a car but in future we would like to keep our own car there.

I am considering taking my Rover 75 1.8T and I wonder whether there are the garages that have the necessary specialist knowledge?

Thanks

scoubix 7th March 2016 14:41

Well there are no more XPart affiliated garages in the Carcassonne area. There is one in Toulouse, another one in Perpignan, but that's a bit far from where you'd be.

Hello,

I'm in the Cambrai area. I've been a member since 2015 but got my first Rover 75 only three months ago. I joined initially to see what true enthusiasts were saying about their cars and to get an idea as to which would be the best model for me. So far I'm very happy with my choice; it's a 2004 CDT in grey with charcoal leather interior. I also have a Suzuki 4x4 and a Peugeot 308 cc but it's the Rover I've been driving the most! I've been here 23 years and my wife is French so I feel neither entirely English nor 100% French, just what I call cht'inglish!

Alexjourno 4th August 2016 00:20

Best Rover 75 garage near Paris?

Hello all, I'm a new member and new owner of a 75 as of two days ago.

It took me several months of searching to find the right one. They're all about double the price and double the Milage (or rather kilometrage) of what you find in the UK; and like all cars here full of war wounds.

Now that I have found one that is quite reasonable I'd like advice on where to go for parts and service near Paris. Straight away I need to deal with the following problems:

-Replace glass in left hand side mirror.
-handbrake not doing much at all.
-dash monitor with lines through it.
-change computer language from German to French or English.

Despite all these problems it was actually the best of around 20 that I viewed here. Seems in top condition otherwise.

Many thanks in advance, Alexander.

Hello

I'am a new member from TOULOUSE, I just bought my first 2005 Rover 75 TOURER CDTI, 3 weeks ago, it's connoisseur SE .
It was a Netherland car at first, but the computer let the choice between German or English language.
The must is to drive with the english spoken GPS.
definitivly, I love that car.
...but a little bit different from my triumph Spitfire,in fact !

Prelude91 12th October 2016 22:01

I lived in France for many years during the 1990's, just south of Tours in the Loire valley. At that time I took my P6 3500 with me, was hell of a job to get it French registered, lots of paperwork and had to go to the service des mines to pass its approval. The douanes wanted to charge me 20% import duty based on the then current value of a brand new Rover 800 Sterling, rather than the actual value of the car itself!! Seems the system is a lot easier these days.

Hello, I'm not living in France but I recently went camping near La Palmyre in Charente Maritime. Whilst visiting the local SuperU in the village of Arvert I spotted this Diesel 75 in the car park. It seemed in good condition. Anybody want claim it?

Hi, I'm completely new to the forum and to France. I'm dutch, 49 years' old, last year I moved from Germany to France and I have just bought my first car ever, a ZT190. Anyone else living in the South of France?

that's great, someone closeby! I always pass Salon de Provence when I
travel to Marsignane Airport picking up my wife and/or kids every few months. They still live in Germany cq Holland.

Don't need any help yet, replaced a seized rear caliper plus repaired the drains of the sun roof. But thanks for the offer, I might need it one day.

Regards, Charles

Cut and paste into google translate https://translate.google.com/

It's not a perfect translation tool, but it'll give you the gist.

Hello everyone!

I come from Northern Ireland, so English is my mother tongue.
However, at the moment, I study French with the economy in the university, and I adore it!
Next year, I have to work in france (or a francophone country). Maybe I'll buy a Rover 75 off when I'm there!

In class we're always told to avoid Google translate like the plague for translation of sentences.
There's a great video on youtube where songs have been fed through google translate. Quite funny!

I alternate between Devon & Haute-Pyrennes - often drive down in my 2.5 tourer but at the moment my ZT-T 190 (Monogram Twilight) is semi-permanently at my French home just outside Trie Sur Baise (about 40 minutes from Tarbes). Comes back to the UK for MOT as it is on UK plates until (if ever) I retire to France permanently.

I'm on the Normandy/Brittany/Mayenne border - and have had to remove door panels a few times ............... but it's a hell of a long way for you to travel for what is a relatively simple job. Chances are that you'll break a few clips when you remove the card, so you might want to order a few from ebay before you remove the card.

Calling French Members...

Bonjour!

I have had an email from a chap in the UK whose father in law passed away in January. He lived in Limoges and owned a 75. He is wondering how best to make sure the 75 moves on to someone who will care for it, ideally a Rover enthusiast, but he doesn't know where to begin. He did try the Rover Club de France but had no reply.

Can any French members give him some advice? I have some details available on request. Any pointers or help drop me a PM.

Thanks,

Diagnostic kit in SW France

Hi, I have just purchased a Rover 75 diesel ( ex UK RHD ) and joined the forum.
I have very quickly started to find my way around the car after only 3 months ownership and about 100 Kms.
I have already regassed aircon, changed fan, full service, repaired squashed brake pipe, replace in tank fuel pump and have performance issues - the car will not go above 3000 rpm in any gear, but will reach about 3600 in neutral.
With good advice from Jules, I am about to check turbo spins and disconnect MAF sensor for comparison.

Also need to re-measure fuel pressure sensor voltage ( was low before changing pump ).
I live between Toulouse and Tarbes ( I see other members near Trie-sur-baisse / Auch etc ) and want to know if there is anywhere to get a diagnostic check done - within a reasonable distance.
I normally do all my own repairs, and have a reasonably good workshop ( tools and 4 post lift etc ) - just a keen and fairly experienced amateur ( is there a french word for amateur ? ). I do speak French pretty well - including a lot of technical terms.

Tasng4 30th August 2018 08:18

Well hello there, my MG ZT-T recently had problems and I bought a LHD Rover 75 2.0 CDT from Poucharramet (31370) near you and drove 600kms in one day, sans issue! Then the clutch failed.

Anyway I can't help with the full T4 diagnostic but I bought a Bluetooth OBD2 reader from Amazon/Ebay and downloaded the 'Torque' app for my phone and this allows you to see any error codes and reset them - total cost about 10€

I'm not an expert on these cars but there are plenty on here, I've always found answers o my questions and the 'sticky' help section is useful too.

BTW if you're new to the Rover 75 world have a search for Toaf - but make sure you research it fully before deciding whether to give it a go or not.

twitters 1st September 2018 14:19

success !!

Hi,
I have pursued the "fueling" idea with a lot of advice directly from member Jules.
There is a broken 75 not far away and yesterday I borrowed the fuel filter and the top housing / pressure sensor.
Fitted this am and now she goes - revs properly and drives like I think it should ( new to the car's actual performsnce but it feels about right ).

I will investigate further, but the likely problem is the fuel filter itself. Knowing the car needed a full service, I was in uk recently and bought all the neccessary items including fuel filter. When I fitted it, I noticed that it was nor exactly the same - having a water drain at the bottom. I thought this could be a useful facility / later version. It fits the screw thread ok.

I will check further to verify the filter top is not the cause, but others may be interested.
As a simple check, I had already measured the DC voltage from the pressure sensor, andwith ignition ON,engine not running, it was about 1 v. Elsewhere on the forum I had seen that it should be over 2v.
With the new / old filter and housing, there is now over 3 v - so in fact that simple test was a good pointer to the problem(s) - sure the tank pump had also failed but it looks like underbonnet pump is good!

twitters 1st September 2018 15:00

follow on

Being rather euphoric about getting a result, I decided to complete the test to establish the culprit:-
IT IS THE FUEL FILTER - no question.

The one that works is a MAHLE 85C/1

The one that DOES NOT WORK is JCPREMIUM B3B0003PR which has the water drain at the bottom.

back in uk next week to "speak" to the Motor factor who supplied this filter AND also sold me the incorrect oil filter - which I did not discover until back in France!!!

Doesn't work when your at the back of a very long queue, and almost everyone in front of you also has a yellow jacket on their dash. Got caught like this going into Laval a few weeks ago, and was dreading the return journey, but luckily it started pouring with rain...........yellow jackets obviously aren't waterproof because the protesters had vanished back into their roadside tents :D

Very surprising.

Quite a nice lot of expats here and in Dordogne (Perigord) generally.
But I was recently told that some of them are selling & going back to mainland for fear of Brexit consequences and the prospect of a worsening change for their pensions.

Gunnerhavesome 3rd March 2019 08:21

Also surprised as I have been around this region at this time of year for many years now. I was in Sarlat yesterday, did see one UK plate but heard a lot of expats in the market all moaning of how expensive it is.
Also saw a French plated 75 just on the outskirts of Sarlat.

mileshawk56 3rd March 2019 16:38

Unfortunate fact France is now as/more expensive than UK- I base this on many years travelling and holidays in la Belle France and haven't as yet discovered the reason?? The euro? possibly? Chris.S.

Did you survive the trek and if so did it go well ???---:D

Survived the trip and all went well until I got to Luz where the water pump gave in, Luckily it wasn't on the way as I have accommodation here and it took 3 weeks to fix.

But all running well again now.

Had great 5 hour run from Biarritz to Tours at 130kmh nearly all the way. You could never keep that sort of steady pace in the UK.
And for a 18 year old motor its running great and so pleased about that after the water pump issue.:D:D

That's because it's GREEN like mine and also because you're a Construction Manager which I was before retirement.--:bowdown:---:D

Cant wait

Starting to plan my next trip to France and already have the ferry booked for the end of Jan.
Even with a 19 year old car I have no worries about taking this fine motor all the way back to the Pyrenees again next year.

Hopefully though after last years water pump exercise and the eye watering expense of that repair the next trip should be no issues.

Meanwhile though the green goblin is resting up for the winter in UK while I'm in Russia battling with the trials and tribulations of owning a P38 Range Rover (also 19 years old). :snowball::snowball::laugh::laugh:

Hello,

I am a new member from France (near Nantes).
I'll have my new MG ZT-T V6, Mk2 in Solar Red next saturday.
Really happy to "save" this car.

I also have a ZS Mk2 V6 in Pearl Black.

I don't if there is a new members presentation page. I can't find it a this time.
