MG ZT Shenanigans

My Brothers is after an auto MGZT or 75 diesel. He found a low mileage MGZT on Autotrader, located in Middlesex. The owner proceeded to proudly tell him it had passed every MOT without advisory. My Brother looked up the MOT history on the DVLA website, which suggested the vendor may have been 'gilding the lily' somewhat - several advisories were there to see on the history!

My Brother then tried to arrange a viewing yesterday. The vendor told him he was busy until around 4pm. My Brother told him he didn't want to view the car when the light was failing and suggested he could be there for around 3pm instead. My Brother quizzed him a bit and asked him if anyone had viewed the car, to which the vendor replied they hadn't, but had offered bids of around £1,700 without viewing the car.

Lo and behold during the course of yesterday the vendor changed the asking price from just over £2,600 to just under £3,500. What is wrong with people? My Brother wisely put this down to the vendor being a dreamer/timewaster.

My Brother is viewing a 75 today in Birmingham. Fingers crossed he has some better luck!

Hi Trikey,

No, this is the one. He has taken a look at it after driving 150+ miles to Birmingham and the vendor neglected to tell him about the different shade of silver on one door and the 4 different cheap tyres on it, so that is a no-go.

He has seen one in Torbay, but it is a bit of a punt mileage-wise.

Oops, the blue one doesn't look much better, MOT-wise.

You would need to factor in new ARB links, new rear brakes, front bushes and a whole new rear suspension by the look of things. Don't like the look of the rear underbody corrosion advisory - as this has been flagged two years ago, you would have hoped the previous owner would have dealt with it!

Mileage is not to worry about with these cars really any under 150,000 you could class as only just being run in, couple below seems a lot of silver ones for sale.

The Contemporary is a mixture of MGZT and Rover 75 which i personally think is nice.

That one looks to have misty front lights and you can get MOT fails/advisory’s depending on how bad. Facelift ones don’t come very cheap. Looks a good car but if you want to buy it tell the dealers that lights need replacing and knock about £200 off.

Have a look at the one I’m selling in members cars, it’s a manual but everything mechanical has been done!

I've seen this one in the flesh and would certainly advise it should be under consideration.

Apparently it is a very nice example.
