I have had cats as pets for years. Probably had around sixty within that time. Great pets but they are on the whole independent. I would always go for an older cat as generally they have quietened down and are more affectionate. Kittens are great fun but expect some damage. I had four kittens at one time and into everything from climbing up the xmas tree to see how many decorations can be knocked off and then racing around the lounge using the curtains as a climbing wall:eek:
I tend now to take a cat or two from the CPL and it's good to know they have a good home. Cats will want to be outside climbing and chasing. If they have claws they will climb. Some good ideas there Jay with the steps etc. I'm sure all will work so go with whatever suits.

I know some people keep cats indoors and say they are ok doing so, but having done indoor and outdoor cats I think they should be let outside. So that they can roam naturally and enjoy chasing birds and mice ect. It's the personal choice of the owner of course but I tend to think that if the cat was the one making the choice it would decide to go outside.

I have to agree with this really unless there are medical reasons that a cat cannot be allowed out.It's in a 'healthy' cats nature to roam and explore.

Well I have spoken to the neighbours in my adjoining flats and they had no problem with me putting a cat flap in the downstairs security door if I decide to get a kitten. I wont need to do this for a few months from getting a kitten. It may be two as the pet rescue centre's sponsors like the kittens to go in pairs from the same litter so I may end up with double trouble;)
I don't know what they do if a cat has a litter of 3 or 5 kittens though??? Will have to investigate a bit further.

So I have the option and will probably side on letting he, she, them outdoors when old enough.

Thanks for all the replies, it has really been helpful.

Jason:)

Sure will Jeff :pic:. My friend Sara says that her cat Flo sulks when I leave. Flo keeps me well occupied and we have play fights. Good for the stress levels:D

I had a cat named Toca who is no longer with us.
Named after the BTCC 'Toca' which is short for Touring Cars:}
She used to sit on my lap watching it on the tv, this was back in the day of all the major manufacturers taking part and the likes of Leslie, Cleland, Menu etc:}

Sweet. But what happens when you turn on the water. Cat record for the high jump;):D
Yep, Jeff, that's why I have thought of calling it TOCA. When I lived in Plymouth I had endless fun playing TOCA on the PS2 (I can hold my own when it comes to car racing games) As the cat will no doubt be endless fun it seems an appropriate name and sounds good for a male cat imho :}
