Crank shaft bearings KV6 - urgent help please
Hi
one of our members is urgently searching crank shaft bearings for a KV6 engine because they were broken. The crank shaft has to be overhault (sliding) and therefore the new bearings must be oversized. Here in Germany nobody can help but as we were told there must be a company in the UK that can provide us with those special bearings. Some engine specialists here already got oversized bearings from England. Alternatively a new crank shaft with new (original) bearings is needed but we're afraid that this would be too expensive for our member. Very appreciated for any help! Regards Gert |
Gert PM Mike he was always the best at getting this kind of info as he knew who to ask.

Thanks Keith, will do that.

Hi Gert,
I have sent a PM to our Mr Lates to see if he can pop on and give any help. Fingers crossed |
Thanks Kandyman!

Big end/mains bearings
I think he means Lates that they have imported O/S for other cars but don't think they have the right size for the KV6.
I believe the original shells were colour coded to the journals. Presumably the journals can be reground to take a set of the same size shells, ie with no variation. Wonder what Xpart/Rimmers solution is to supplying suitable shells ? In the UK I think I would be searching for a low mileage S/H engine from a scrappie in preferance ! |
The cost of shells isnt in the real world unfortunately. I wold opt for a replacement unit.

Hi
may be the problem in understanding what I meant is my bad english... and my lack of technical knowledge. I've just tried to translate what I've been told by the workshop. The car is located at the moment at one of the best mg rover specialists in germany. You may call them the "german Lates". In deed there are three different coulored shells depending on tolerances of new shafts. But after regrinding the crankshaft other measures of the shells are necessary. We have learned that there is a company in the UK that fabricates such special shells but we couldn't find out who they are. That's the problem. Our member has decided to pay only a special amount to take the car back on the road and the workshop is convinced that the above mentioned procedure is the only one to be possible. Regards Gert |
