How to replace the side impact sensors
 

To start we need to disconnect the battery and remove the seats, however there are 2 ways of doing this depending on whether you have manual or electric seats. If you have manual seats you can disconnect the battery now, if you have electric you have to move the seat and remove the Torx 50 bolts then disconnect the battery. I always wait about 30 minutes after disconnecting the battery before messing with airbag plugs.

Lets get the seat out, you will need to grab a Torx 50 tool and undo the 4 Torx bolts:

Before pulling the seat out remember to remove the seat belt adjuster from the bottom of the seat otherwise you will either break it or lose the retaining clip (which i have done in the past):

Now unplug the airbag and pre tensioner wires (Your battery should be disconnected):

Now pull the seat out of your car.

You need to remove the sill trims from the front and rear:

Now remove the trim from the bottom part of the B pillar:

Remove the 17mm bolt holding the bottom of the seat belt in place:

Lift the corner of the rear seat base and pull the carpet from underneath:

Now you can pull the carpet all the way up and from here you can see the side impact sensor:

The sensor is held in place with 2 Torx 30 bolts just undo both of them and replace the sensor, after that just put it all back together in reverse order and that's it you are done. This guide is the same for both sides of the car.

Please note that this is for the earlier cars with the earlier fuse box ;)

The impact sensor is in the same position on the later cars, the difference being that the impact sensor is smaller and has an Orange connector ;)

Thanks that will be helpful to me as I had a swimming pool on the passenger side and air bag light is on so I am assuming that the sensor has drowned.

I can also sort out the handbrake adjuster whilst seats and carpets out too.

Just a couple of photo's of the impact sensor on the later cars, as stated by Russ they are orange, but located inner sill panel therefore possible to get to buy just lifting the edge of the carpet without removing the seats ? never tried but looking at the position possible cheers Arctic

Are Rover 45 impact sensors the same as Rover 75 sensors?
 

The passenger side impact sensor in my 2002 75 estate has clearly been wet at some point and the airbag warning light is on.... and the MOT is due soon. I've cleaned all the connectors under both seats, hence moving onto the impact sensor.
The part number on mine is YDB 100310 but there don't seem to be too many on EBay at present and I'd rather not spend about £70 on one at Rimmers!

There's a chap on EBay listing part number YDB 100410 as being suitable for Rover 47/75 and MG ZS/ZT/ZT-T. This sensor usually seems to be listed for 45/ZS only.

Well, I fitted a Rover 45 sensor today and it hasn't cured the problem Of course, I don't actually know if the sensor I replaced is the problem although as it looked as if it'd been wet I thought it was a good bet.The driver's side is dry as a bone. Not entirely sure what to do next, apart from cancel the MOT booking on Monday!
