Rover 75 V8
We're on the lookout for a Rover 75 V8
Preferably a tourer, but if not a saloon would be fine. ;) Watcha got? :D |
Join the TwoSixties as there’s an up to date and comprehensive list of all V8 cars for sale

Pooky Bear I think he's nicknamed it. |
This is the comprehensive list Les is talking about: LINK Its in the public section so you don't need to be registered to read it.

I am a member of the two-sixties, and have looked at the list - even been to view a few cars that are on it, but thanks anyway. :D
There's a nice one I really like, but the grill surround has been stolen - probably because they are so difficult to get hold of - which is why I've also got a wanted thread for one of those. Incidentally, the car that requires it is not on the two-sixties list.... I know Bob has decided to keep the bear, but I wouldn't be interested anyway as it's an MG, rather than a Rover. ;) |

The one that needs the surround l isn't advertised on the internet, and when I queried the seller about that he asked me not to pass the details on... very strange...
But hey-ho! Yes, not going to buy one just because it's there and for sale, it's a big purchase and it needs to be *right* :D |
There's one in car and classics. Nothing to do with me.

I've already asked the seller last week for some more pics/info before I go to view, as it's a long way up to Edinburgh and I don't want to waste either of ours time if it's not what I'm after - but I've had no reply as yet! |

The ones I've looked at so far were in Wiltshire, Dorset and Buckinghamshire, the one in Wiltshire was the better of those three, but hasn't got powerfoids, sunroof, rear sunscreen, trafficmaster or headlamp washers (none of which are deal-breakers, though). I do want it to be as completely original as possible, though - the one in dorset had a very nice aftermarket Pioneer radio/DVD sat nav - he'd thrown away the original, though! :duh: It also felt 'unloved' - I got the impression that even though it had a lot of very large receipts with it they were done because he 'had' to rather than wanted to. Definitely not an enthusiast in any way. The one in Buckinghamshire was at a dealers and was waaaaay better in the pics than in real life. Lots of little supermarket dinks and lacquer peel, unfortunately, as well as a service history that - lets just say - I would have to investigate the authenticity of..... The one with the missing surround is in storage less than 5 miles from where I live in Wales, and is really, really nice in every way except the surround. It's in starlight, is totally original and has a good, high spec list. :drool4: Just that <insert expletive> surround! :banghead: |
Hope you’re successful in getting something BigBen, just be patient because if you buy the wrong one you’re guaranteed the right one will come along shortly after lol

I got really frustrated when looking for one, responding to ads only to be told it was gone . . . . well remove the effin advert then! Found one in darkest Yorkshire, sent a brief, one sentence message to the seller, "is it still available?", expecting the usual response. Much to my surprise it was! Went down and saw it, immaculate pearl black, test drive during which the ABS light popped up, much to the owner's frustration as he's had it into Chris @ Retro Sports Cars for the same problem. Called in there during the test drive and I got a chance to quiz Chris about the car, he confirmed all the underside was good. I ended up leaving a deposit and would close the deal on the condition the ABS problem was sorted which it was by a new ABS unit.

I'm debating whether just to buy this one I like, has been looked after, and has a good spec that's near me even without the surround.
I'm wondering if I could find someone who can make a replacement for me from either stainless or chrome - and maybe even cheaper than an original part  |

Mine is still available but it will not be cheap. But mine is poverty spec. But then it could be made into your dream car.
If looking for a V8 Rover Tourer, well they only built 16 and as far as I know all 16 are still around. If you still want a Rover then pm Limorog. His V8 Rover Tourer was up For Sale awhile back. Absolutely beautiful car in Raven Black over Moraccan Red, a Jaguar colour. |

Thought you were 100% keeping the Bear... But the reason for the Rover hunt is due to the need for it to be automatic, otherwise my father wouldn't be able to drive it. ;) I do like Raven Black - and that bit would match our existing Diesel Tourer, too. (I'm assuming it's a duotone?) :D |

It's missing the bumper surround aswell(!) It has had new brakes and tyres all round, and a very comprehensive service history. Mechanically it seems very sound. It has the original exhaust system and although starting to show it's age it's still good and solid. The mirrors (non powerfold) aren't working and the chrome covers are quite pitted. It has cruise, traction control, electric (drivers memory) seats, rear parking sensors, self dimming mirror and rain sensing wipers (all working). There are quite a few stone chips on the bodywork (one or two on the bonnet have some surface rust) and some tiny areas dabbed (badly) with touch-up paint. The near-side plastic roof channel finisher is lifting at the front, and beginning to discolour. The IPK is practically unreadable. It's not as high spec as the one near me, either - no sunroof, xenons, headlamp washers or rear blind. Airbag light is on (probably the under seat connector) Also the rear folding seat won't lock on the drivers side (think it just needs some lube and "encouragement"), also due to being registered really late it's in the higher tax bracket. He told me the only reason he bought it was because his son said it would be a good short-term investment. (get the feeling it's not his cup of tea). So IMO he would have to drop the price again for me to be properly interested, given that he is asking more than they are for the one near me and #648 I don't think he'll come down in price, either, as he kept banging on about how someone in New Zealand is constantly hounding him to send it out there... but he doesn't want to... |

You need to figure out what you are willing to spend. Do you research, ask questions. I will only sell my V8 400 ZTT if the money is right. Otherwise I’ll keep her. |

As long as the base vehicle is sound and it's the right price; and so long as it's an SE spec to start other bits and bobs can be added on later if not there already. :} Oh - and I really couldn't imagine Pooky Bear in anyone else's ownership than yours, Bob! :D |

If the deal with LimoRog falls through, there's always this one.

Just a quick message to let you all know I have found a car, and will be collecting soon (waiting for a house-move date first, conveyancers are a total PITA!)
Thanks for all your help, especially Bob (as always!). :} I'm very much looking forward to owning another one of these great cars, to me being able to look after them is a privilege. :D I'll post again with some more info once I have picked it up (and have *hopefully* moved house!) :getmecoat: |
