I've got one similar which I built myself when I was 14 years old.
I remember my mother taking me into the old Alexander's Sawmills when they were still down beside the river Ayr. I went up to this guy and said I was looking for some wood. Well you've come to the right place, he said as we have a lot of wood here. Spotting my technical drawing I had in my hand he asked to see it and when he noticed it was for a joiners bench he spent some time with me getting the right hardwood for the top and soft wood for the frame. Almost 50 years later I still have it in my workshop to this day and would never part with it. Apart from joinery work I've had numerous engines etc. stripped down on it. I had my Vanden Plas Princess 1300 engine & gearbox all built up then had to use a long scaffolding board to slide it down onto the floor. |
