lpg insurance
 

been on lpg for years now.been with L.V for years same car . each year i have seen the premium increase . i do have upgrades .. all declared and legal. im paying £600 pa. i would like to know from other people who have lpg on here who they use. most of the insurers who i speak to wont insure lpg including the A.A. not sure about R.A.C (might be they cannot repair or do not have qualified staff) full ncd /.no claims for or against for last 12 yrs but makes little difference. i also have a full certificate of install from a private qualified lpg installer which they usually ask for. most of the insurers ask for you to be a member of the lpg installers list and on their list before they will insure you. mine was a private test of approval and so does not go on to their list.(this is a private lpg / installers sham which is not supported by law ) but used by the trade to force work and their own intrests. im sure their must be other insurers who will insure without being a member of thiis scheme. ( L.V is one ) which is whom im with now. any other insurers ? :shrug:

I've never had a LPGUK approved installation in my life, nor had any certification to the effect that the installation has been inspected.

Most insurance companies won't accept a LPGUK issued certificate, only an engineers report, or an MOT.

In fact if the current MOT postdates the LPG installation, this is all that is required by the majority of insurers.

The original LPGA COPII were a nonsense, and unlike things like GasSafe in the case of household gas installations, not mandatory in any way shape or form.

I’ve had several LPG cars with no issues on insurance at all.
Admiral, A Plan, Halifax to name a few. They ask on line if the car is modified and I tick the LPG box on the drop down list of modifications.
They obviously expect LPG cars to need insurance hence why they are on the list.
Only DVLA asked for my certificate when I applied for a reduction on the VED.
Even the comparison sites accommodate the modification.

Breakdown cover is a totally different matter but then I’ve had no issues there either.

thankyou gents for your replies. its also good news that as brian says an mot should be adequate post installation. i fitted my own kit bought from a ex member on here lotusman. never used brand new. i had it inspected by an lpg registered fitter and was issued an inspection passed certificate. first thing i was asked for was this certificate by L.V which i photocopied and sent off ... insured and been there since. other companies asked for lpguk certification.others did not want to know as the A.A for example. may be there is more of a market for this now with thirsty classic cars and i will do some digging on my next renewal. thankyou for your suggestions for alternative insurers i will give them a try next time round. i had to also send my inspection certificate (copy of ) to dvla for proof when i changed my logbook over to dual fuel. seems i need to do some more homework next time and save myself a few quid .again ... thanks for your replies.
