my god how difficult can it be?

looked up job centre, found a web site. Its a government web site https://www.gov.uk/ to me it looks useless

phoned the phone number 0800 169 0190 voice platform, lots about this and that credit but what about a job.... now just held in a queue

why not give people the contact phone number for the local job centre?

I had dealings with the Job Centre a few years ago after being made redundant. They were only interested that I met the criteria for unemployment benefit and did nothing to actually help me find work.

Are you still on hold ?

But at least it’s a free phone number !

Local job centre numbers are listed online.

Assuming.your location in sig is still correct

Search Google for job centre Southampton. I tried to copy the link, but it didn't copy.

I have to admit, that it is a disgrace just how difficult it has become dealing with anything 'official' in today's Britain, the problem being that civil servants are not allowed to exercise any kind of personal interpretation of the job they are tasked to carry out, they are essentially automatons interpreting the 'law' as per training, they see you the individual as a task, nothing else, you are NOT a human being, you are there as an inconvenience to the system, you will be told what the system can offer you, and you will be entered into a process, a box ticking process, if you fulfil the criteria you pass, if not then you are on your own, being passed from pillar to post, that is democracy in action, and to think that Great Britain actually 'ruled' a third of the world at one point, it really is incredible. The system is so useless, nobody has a clue as to what they are doing, that is why we see a U-turn recently on the Benefits fiasco, why do people vote these morons in to power, very worrying...

I have now spoken with the job centre but its not like it used to be.
They don't have rows of boards with jobs on apparently and suggested I was better going to a temp agency.

even getting to talk to the job centre was hard work and getting to a list of jobs on line was no easier. Make if difficult and people wont work!

Over here jobs are advertised online, in a similar way to the boards. (I remember them). If I recall it is www.nijobfinder.com or similar.

I work in a govt. Dept.and there are quite a number of agency staff employed. Signing up to an agency would be a good move, as it is in their interests to find work for you.

I should say I just want casual work. I want to be able to ring up today for work tomorrow, nothing more fixed then that. This is just to earn my "beer money"

The money will pay for my "hobby" as I don't feel it is right for me to be retired and eat into our savings or my pension while my wife still works part time.
Mind you she is off to New York for a long weekend jolly with a friend of hers while I cook and clean house :)
