ZT starting problems
 

Hi, ref my earlier thread on problems starting my ZT... have now had battery on charge for a while and car is trying to start... but no firing ( Diesel ) I have noticed there seems to be no pressure on the accelerator pedal, It just feels loose any ideas ??? Not pumping fuel??

The diesel throttle pedal is fly by wire so there's no throttle cable as you may of once had. Does the engine spin over ?

It's trying to start, but not actually firing, seems like there's no fuel getting to the engine, but I can hear the fuel pump running in the engine bay before turning the ignition to position 2?

I'd still plump for the battery as it was only clicking before...The pumps should be running when the ignition lights come on

Would the battery strength have any negative effect on the fuel pumps, the car was turning over strongly without actually firing? ( Until I flattened it again!! )...

After looking at your earlier thread you can only have charged your battery for a maximum of 2 hours. That's nowhere near enough. You will need to leave it on charge for 24 hours.

Don't leave it in a discharged state. Put it on your charger now and don't try to start the car until this time tomorrow.

Thanks Simon, will leave the car on a low charge setting and hope for the best tomorrow AM... I have had it on fast charge so far...

Agreed, but unfortunately work calls..... and as I live in the middle of Exmoor, my daily commute to Barnstaple isn't available on public transport.... so overnight charge or bust!! I may be wrong (Usually am )..... but if the engine is now turning strongly, how will the extra overnight charge help? What's stopping it from firing up now.... perplexed and frustrated......

I don't know Phil; but a diesel engine relies on high compression for ignition so if your battery isn't turning over the engine fast enough .....

Bearing in mind what you've said, I'd return the charger to fast mode. If your journey to work is short, I would go easy on the high current accessories such as HRW, heated seats etc. until you're sure that you've fully recharged the battery.
