Xenon Upgrade

I've just installed my OEM Xenons..

At first I thought.. What's the fuss all about? Yes they look nicer but there is not that much extra light.

Then I went for a drive and it was getting dark. Immediately I could see the right one was pointing very low. In fact so low it was illuminating the bumper slightly.
As I bought them on eBay I thought one may be damaged. Anyhow I played with the levels and have gotten them to match.

Now I have 2 perfectly working Xenon lights and I can say they are definitely better than my Phillips Brilliance or Osram Nightbreakers I had on previously.

All in all a great upgrade.

I'll take the car to a MOT centre tomorrow and get the lights aligned properly.

Not sure how much it should cost but I have no idea where the lights should be pointing or how high.

steven,

if you take your car to a mot testing station and show concern, they do it free of charge for road safety

also did you scribe the bolt location of the previous units as a guide line for the replacements..they have a lot of movement around the bolts

Yeah but I still intend to change them for higher Kelvin lamps..

I've found some Philips 5000k ones for £44 or some 6k unbranded for £30. I'll probably go with the Phillips ones as that's the OE brand.
However first I have to wait until the misses noticed the front of the car looks different.. :)

The first place I went to did the adjustments for a tenner and that was me going straight off the street.

I can't see it costing much more than that.

A question to those that upgraded to Xenons.

Did your's fit in perfectly or were they a tight fit?

The reason I ask is my drivers side one was so tight I had to bend the aircon pipe slightly to be able to get it in.

the Xenon driver sticks out further back than the originals and would not slide in without some pipe re-arranging.

All my aircon pipes are original but they bend in exactly the wrong place.

perfect fit..no problem.

unless the aircon pipe arrangement differs on a v6

Mine went straight in without a problem as well.

Perfect fit I fitted them to my CDT Tourer till I took them off and refitted the original yellow halogens before I sold it. I now have them on the shelf as spares for the V8

I did a direct comparison between the Xenons and Projectors I had on a couple of my previous cars frankly I would not have paid £400 a pop to buy the Xenons new the Projectors were near identical in light output and cut-off

I would be quite happy with either and both types are superior to the standard halogens

Next job is to improve the naff high beam yellow bulbs so they at least 'look' like they match the Xenons a bit more as they look really silly and one tends to notice such things when facing a patio window as one comes up the drive!
