End of the road maybe.
 

Looking like end of the road for the old girl.
Possible head gasket gone or something more on the v6.
Very odd only done 73 thousand.
Serviced every year since it was made.
Water loss out of the cap every time it's used.
Started the trip to work tonight and after just 10 miles was steaming and coolant around the expansion tank.
When parked up temp was a constant 97c when driving was up to 100c.
Fan kicks in ok at the 100c

New thermostat new temp sender. No sign of coolant loss around the vee or engine. So guess is into the engine.

Could be as simple as knackered seals in the header tank cap. Can replace them with Viton ones for four quid.

Sorry new cap as well. But to be honest have got to use the old one as the new one broke.

I've known new thermostats to be duds from the start.---:eek:

That low mileage means it's not likely to be a head gasket.

That's my thoughts.
But it's doing the same as it did with the old thermostat.
Hence the change of the items.
Coolant rises in header tank then over flows.
No sign of gas or air just rises over flows then drops.
Odd thing is we have only seen it happen when it hits the 100c and the fan kicks in.
Its always run a 93c unless in standing traffic.
Now runs at around 88c the starts to rise and don't like coming down.

Water pump was done 2 year ago and seems to work ok
Been taken to a garage who are mg rover specialist who say its head gasket.

Could it be a blocked oil cooler steve?

They're saying that because they haven't a clue what it is.

Please take note of my reply in your last thread. The variable temperature indicates that your cooling system isn't pressurising because you have a leak.
That's because the coolant is boiling because the system isn't pressurised. Did you leave the cap off? I don't think I received an answer to that question.

Maybe worth a bypass .
Forgot to say no oil in water or water in oil.

Sorrry Did have the new cap on but its broken so waiting for a new one to arrive.
So tonight had to use my old cap that to be fair the rings are flat.

Then it's not the head gasket. Air will be seen in the water.

There is some kind of blockage in the system not allowing the water to circulate. Builds up in the header tank then overflows. Bottom of the rad or further into the cooling system is partially blocked.
