Help! Squeak and knock on idle? Disappears when clutch pedal is pressed.

Afternoon everyone,

The striped one is being a bit of a pain in the last week :( I have an issue when the car is up to temperature that there is a slight knock and squeak that disappears when the car is put into gear. My initial thoughts were the release bearing but I thought I would 'put it to the floor' for the opinions of the fine folks of this forum.

Many Thanks in advance.

Luke

Might be worth having a good look at your engine mountings, just to eliminate them.
Good luck.

I am not an expert, some on here definitely are, but weak mountings can result in resonance though once moving, this can come from the suspension and the top mounting struts.

Seems like it maybe a case of systematically eliminating a few things in order

The release bearing shouldn't be working on tick over.

That squeak and knock that disappears when you push down the clutch pedal would, I believe, be coming from somewhere else.---;)

I had to scrap OTTs little brother in December. It was a 2002 MGTF160 and looked immaculate from the top. Underneath the suspension and subframe were rotten. To fix it would have cost a bomb. It had passed it's MOT the previous December with no trouble.:mad::mad:

DON'T scrap it.

Might be cheap to repair. Try and trace the noise first.---;)

I won't scrap it don't worry. The mechanic says it's the slave cylinder and not to overly worry about it yet. The more pressing concern is the awful rusty sills
