What to put on a car to protect over the winter
Been working on my 800 and it’s been sitting for a few years unloved, so looking to give it a snow foam then wash but what to put on next if anything as it’s just going to be sitting till spring.
Thanks |
A good quality car cover :D.
I'm sure Teflon will be along shortly :}. Nowadays there's dozens of waxes and sealants etc. all promising the world in terms of protection. What do you already have and what sort of budget? Are you doing this outside or indoors in a garage? There are some very good products out there but they need to be kept dry to cure. Andy. |
Well it’s been sitting outside and will be sitting outside over the winter. I was scrapping it then started working on it again over the summer so just looking for something as a stop gap till the spring

I have a cover from these guys. They're well regarded in Detailing circles and I've only ever had great service from them.
https://www.raceglaze.co.uk/ Maybe this one will be OK and won't break the bank :}. https://www.raceglaze.co.uk/car-cove...ant-car-cover/ I've thrown a net over mine so that the cover is well secured from those lovely winds that we've been having . But my car is parked backing on to an open field so the wind whips across. Probably not needed if she's by a fence or wall etc. You can easily spend way more than that on a quality wax/sealant ;). Looking forward to hearing how the 800 comes back to life :}. Andy. |
Whatever you do don't hose it down . Cover wheels with Wheely bin liners. To stop the weather getting in and let the dirt form a protective layer .
If you hose it you will get water settlement where the rain wouldn't normally reach . In the spring if you are not in a rush start washing it over a few weeks with that pink stuff from £ shop. It says for mountain bikes. All the grime will disappear leaving the car you parked up as you remember . And put a couple of those moisture removing things inside 78 p in Asda .as usual I will get pulled down on this but it what I actually have done and it works for me |
