... the first speeding ticket was issued to a British motorist.
Walter Arnold exceeded the 2mph speed limit in a built up area and was fined one shilling. He drove though Kent at 8mph, and also failed to have someone walking in front of him waving a red flag to alert pedestrians. He was chased by a police officer on a bike, who caught him after 5 miles! |
Those were the days! Sounds hilarious viewed through the retrospectoscope. I would imagine that Mr Arnold could afford the shilling fine. Do we have a picture of what he was driving anywhere?:}
