House Cat. Yah or Nah???

After being around my friend, Sara's kitten. I want one too.
The trouble is, is it would have to be a house cat (because I have security doors going into my flat)
The trouble is I cant get it out of my head it cant be good for a kitten growing up to be stuck in the house (my last cat was able to go out doors).

I contacted the RSPCA but no luck, unless I want a older cat usually with or with out skin disease. There is a Pregnant Cats Kitten Rescue Centre not far from me. I suppose I could call then to ease my concerns with keeping a kitten/cat indoors. At least it would be loved and cared for.

I thought of getting two so they could keep each other company in the flat. Have all the details of the shots, neutering, food etc, from the Veterinary Centre near to me. The boss has some house cats of his own it seems.

Any thoughts positive or negative most welcome as I am trying to decide :shrug: :bowdown:

Its fine, my 2 are house cats having never been outside (apart from when Sheba fell off the balcony as a kitten) and previous ones were house cats too!

Hi Jay,

At your service Sir.
There are certain breeds of cats that are more adept at an indoor life although you don't often see these kittens available at rescue centres.
They are usually bred by breeders as they can command good money;)

I know kittens are cute but have you considered an adult cat, usually far less destructive and very often we have cats come in that have lived indoors only.
They come to us as their owners can no longer keep them for various reasons, usually moving to a home where pets aren't allowed or health reasons.
Just a thought Sir but if you do decide kittens then a pair would be a good idea for companionship:}

We have 6 cats and they are all house cats and they are perfectly happy being in-doors. We only let them in the garden when we are out there so we can ensure they stay safe and they all come in quite happily when we go in. HTH

I have a cat, we were going to keep her indoors but the older she got the more she was at the window intrigued by the outside world. So we let her outside and she loves it. Hardly in, especially now its summer, loves to hunt and socialise with the local cats. Also loves to socialise via the window with our neighbours indoor cats. I think 2 is a good idea if your keeping them indoors. They are great pets though (on their terms!).

Just been roughly sketching out a few ideas to make some 'cat stairs' as I have a balcony on the first floor. They could then go out.
