[recommendation needed] 225/45/R17 tyres

Hi guys,

I'm currently driving on four different 215/50/R17 noname tires that need a replacement. I'm looking for four new tyres, preferably 225/45/R17 as they are more common. That gives me a better selection for a cheaper price.

They should meet the following criteria, ordered by their importance:

- reasonably priced (under 80 per corner?)
- smooth ride characteristics (no vibrations)
- long lasting
- quiet
- fuel efficient
- no need for great acceleration or sporty cornering

Could you recommend something? What would be your choice? Thanks!

Mats

Currently my two front tyres are "Event" tyres, as far as I'm concerned they are good all year round tyres. Much more forgiving on potholes than my rear tyres, so when the time comes to replace the rear tyres, I'll have Events all round.

I'm sure a lot of others will disagree but I'm very happy.

I used to deliver for Stapletons. The ONLY tyres we didn't get back on a faulty warranty basis was EVENT and NEXEN.

I always get Nexen as they are the higher end of the budget range.

And are good in the wet too.

I bought a set from black circles in that size. If only I could remember the brand.... They were C ratings for wet grip and fuel economy and 72db noise. Fully fitted for £190 at my local tyre fitters. If I remember right the brand name wasn't listed on the website it was their special offer. Very happy with them. I'll post the name tomorrow when I've been out for a look.

Nexens are good all rounders.

The brand was Pace PC10's. Good reviews and I have no complaints so far.

Good to see a knowledgeable member of the club agreeing with my opinion of Event tyres.

For those of us on a tight budget they seem to offer the perfect compromise.

If it helps, I have just put 4 Avon ZV5's on mine, great tyres, quiet running.
Cost £260 fitted and 4 wheel alignment.

I put 4 Avon ZV3 on my previous '75 diesel and they transformed the ride.
