Pavement parking ban!

A national inquiry is underway to ban parking on pavements.

Good, if London can manage, practically, everywhere else can.

Sadly, that was three years ago. I have suggested to local Councillors in the past to create a "make a metre" campaign, so that the minimum clearance is kept which would allow push and wheelchairs to move safely.

Enforcement is the key, and I doubt there would be anybody employed around me to do that.

I would like to see it pursued as it's a pet-hate of mine, brought about by the selfish actions of some drivers.

I like this and will send my comments......
"Call for written evidence

The Committee is calling for written evidence on the following:

the impact of pavement parking;
the enforcement of pavement parking offences; and
enforcement and, if necessary, reform of traffic regulation orders need to deal with pavement parking.

The closing date to submit written evidence is 14 May 2019."

Thanks for this Lancpudn.

I didn't know that it was legal to park on a public footpath. I think that a rather big clue to town clerks and their relevant employees on the subject is embedded in the very word ... footpath.

This will be impossible to police, I know of roads where pavement parking is a must in order to leave enough room for the traffic to flow.

Let’s all park on the road and block the way for the emergency services, about time these jobsworths enforced some proper rules and regulations.

Obstructing a public right of way by parking is also illegal so one could be prosecuted for obstructing a footpath or road . People now seem to think it is a right to park where they like , be it outside their house or on a footpath.

There are a lot of terraced 2 up 2 down houses here with most houses having two cars, they were never built with cars in mind. both sides of the streets have cars on both pavements and when it's wheelie bin day both sides are totally blocked and you have to walk in the road.

Likewise here, except there is no reason/advantage to parking on the pavements. The road is wide enough for vehicles to get past, if they park entirely on the road, yet not wide enough that two opposing vehicles can pass even if one is completely blocking the pavement - one always has to stop and give way. Why do they do it - I have no idea, apart from the kerbs are quite shallow.

Today the parking guy came down the street booking vehicles parked on the pavement - I thanked him for his efforts.
