Mk1 or Mk2 Wing Mirror
I need to replace the driver's wing mirror on my Mk2 Tourer (the car had an argument with a fence, and the fence won). When looking at eBay some sellers describe wing mirrors as suitable for Mk1, some for Mk2 and some as suitable for all years.
Can anyone advise me as to whether there is a difference between the mirrors? I am looking for electric, non-folding. Thank you. |
Both versions of mirrors will fit either car,the wiring and the plug remains the same.The additional two pin connector on the mirror is for the powerfold function.

I assume mine is a Mk1 as it is 1999. It has the chrome mirrors - none folding.
Is there a possibility of fitting/converting to folding, without too much bother? People round here aim for the mirrors in car parks and narrow lanes! |
You'd need new mirrors, a new switchpack, and the wiring *
It's a bit of a big job tbh... the mirrors are normally £150-£200, the switch £50-£100... *some cars came with the wiring in place (esp early ones), but if they don't you have to run across the car and into the doors which is a **** of a job I did it, but tbh it's a 100% pointless feature (even if it looks cool!) |

I have resigned to the fact another switch will be needed, so no surprise there.... I have this (very expensive) hang-up .... If there is an empty socket or space and an extra goes in it ... I want it! Next is the headlight wash! |
Pop out the driver side window switch and look at the plugs, if the plugs are fully populated then the wiring is there, if there are two spaces in one of the plugs then the door loom wiring is not present. The main wiring loom in the car should have the wires to get from one side to the other in an early model ;)

head light wash is far more complicated than you may think. you will need the washer bottle, hoses and washer jets obviously but also you will need the BBUS alarm sounder as it is part of the whole setup. You will then have to have the car on a T4 with somebody who has the knowledge to use T1 disks as well as T4 ones to programme the headlight wash. Have fun :D
