MG GS test driven today

Test drove top of the range new GS today in burnt orange.
Build quality appears good. Liked the high seating position. Very responsive 1.5 petrol engine. Clutch issue with revs dropping of slowly when clutch pressed in, burnt clutch material smell!
Comfortable cabin extremely well equipped, but seat squab seemed short compared to my 75. Insufficient under thigh support unless seat put right back.
Held road well. Felt every bump and hole but I guess that is inevitable on 18 inch alloys with low profile tyres. Wife liked it and we both agreed it's a nice drive and really good value for money compared with what other SUVs

I test drove one last friday. So impressed with it that ordered one. So a 5 year old MG6 and 1 year old MG 3 will be soon on sale at Pinkstones MG:}

Presumably you didn't experience the clutch issue that I did then? When will you take delivery? I will be very interested to see how you get on. A different dealership has also offered me a drive so I will get a second chance to rate it:}

I'm sure the Chinese car industry will welcome your purchase.

Always one isn't they, anyway I'm sure the engineering team in the UK will be happy to be kept in a job 😀

2000 engineers working in SMTC Anting but no more than 300 (with at least half being contractors) in SMTC UK on land rented from St Modwen.

Its no more a token gesture and not for the long term. SAIC loves to drape the union flag over its products but wants to invest as little as possible in Britain.

Lack of investment?

Do you blame them? With attitudes to their products in this country I am not surprised. Fair enough to comment and make your mind up about them if you have had a drive but not if you have not!

Just think what most folks attitudes to Rovers are in the UK ...until they drive one....! :duh:

If I had the money I seriously think we might very well have an automatic one. Not in burnt orange mind!
It may very well be possible for us to get one in a few years time when they are available second hand...hopefully cheaply!

I like it. Need to drive an auto one though...

If MG6 is anything to go by they will be available second hand very cheaply and you wont have to wait long either. Attitiudes to Chinese products come from shocking crash tests and rip off designs.

I have no problem with people buying the cars its your money spend it how you want. What I do have a problem with is a Chinese company waving the flag at every opportunity when the product simply isn't British.
