bonnet lock.

I have a Rover 75 cdti auto diesel. 53. I carried out Jules,s mod some years ago and all has been ok. I "sorned" the car early this year due to ill health. I left it unlocked and bonnet openunder cover to facilitate easy access to trickle charge it and check the tyres. today I cannot get the bonnet to close. It goes through the safety hook but wii not access the two holes with the springs all the way. On Jules advice I sprayed WD40 into them and also some release oil to no avail so far . I am too old now to dismantle the front of the car (85) and there are no specailists in s. Wales. Any ideas will be welcome, many thanks, Chas.

I'm not quite your age yet, only 82.---:D

Maybe, just maybe you have left something under the bonnet somewhere that is stopping you from quite closing it.

For us old uns it's easy to do.---

May I suggest Chas, that the half moon catches in the slam panel holes are not fully out, & so not catching the pins. If you slacken the 2 bolts either side of the holes a fraction, then have someone pull the interior bonnet release handle a few times, you should see the half moon catches move in & out. Put some grease on these & work them a few times to loosen. HTH's:cool:

Thank you Colvert for the suggestion. I did look at the time, but no such easy answer. Chas:shrug:

Thank you Suzublu. I was not aware of the exact function of the lock. A friend of mine , a motor mechanic came to help. The catches would not move so he removed the front grill and fully undid the two bolts. the units dropped but were held up by the cables. By putting his hand through the grill and the fan blade we were able to apply WD40 and a fine oil to the catches. We disconnected the cable J/B and eventually got them moving by pulling the cables at that point. re-connected the J/B as per Jules mod and it now responds to the lever and close each time . Many thanks for your helpfull advice and to the Rover club for the system, Chas .
