oil leaks

I removed my under-tray this week to find a real mess. The original spongy sound deadening material was soaked in oil and the areas above the tray to the nearside were covered in a black oily mess. I suspect that some of this may have been old oil/ diesel spillages. I still believe I have a leak somewhere in this area, although it doesn't seem like brake fluid. What's the best way to clean this area, so that I can determine whether there are any new leaks and what are the main problem areas for leaks?:shrug:

spray with gunk, leave to soak if you cant brush, then wash off with water

I had something similar on mine and was coming from the intercooler o rings that were no longer sealing. The PCV valve hadn't been changed for years and the intake system was full of oil!

+1 for intercooler O rings. One of mine was so bad it had swelled and was half way up the outside of the pipe :eek:. Lots of yuk to remove.

And yes, check/change the PCV, mine was swollen and solid :eek::eek:. If left can lead to nasty/expensive engine problems :mad:.

Hopefully it's not clutch fluid from the slave......

Thankfully we have an "Arctic" here in the Midlands so "O" rings and PCV's are sorted very painlessly at a nano meeting ;).

If you could make it down to Four Ashes this weekend I'm certain you'll have a reliable answer and maybe get it sorted as well and meet lots of lovely enthusiasts :}

Good luck.

Andy

PS Something like Gunk should shift the muck. It it's extreme then try White Spirit - not environmentally friendly but it should do the trick.

oil leaks

Further to my post. I removed the under-tray and its looking increasingly like the fuel pump that's leaking. It ties in with my reduction in mpg over the last 6-9 months. I monitor my mpg and this has been slowly decreasing. Best buys for correct fuel pump please, or cure?

If its the fuel pump that's been leaking for over 6 months, then I'm not surprised that its a mess now!

Just checked the bottom of the intercooler pipe and its not this. Although its time to change the O rings anyway!
