Diesel ZT-T remind me - why did I want the auto box and not the manual?

To recap I was looking at buying one over a year ago and joined here to research and came to the conclusion that the auto box was a better option as the manual one had a disadvantage of some sort, which I now cannot remember?
Damned if I can find it looking through the forum either?

Can anyone help with this as Im back in the market for one

Hi Paul,

From what I have read, the auto box is much more reliable than the manual. No worries about the master or slave cylinder giving out on you.
I may be in the market for a new Tourer soon, mine is an auto, but I do miss a manual.

Yes sadly the slave cylinder is woeful. Wouldn't have been a problem with an operating arm and external slave cylinder, but Rover decided to fit an internal concentric one and skimped on the quality. :getmecoat:

I suspect more than a few diesels have become bean cans when the clutch failed?

Because you believed the hype that an auto was better then a manual? :)

I like the reason some give, less gear changing on a motorway.

As far as automatic gearboxes from the same era go, it's absolutely lovely.
Unfortunately this coupled with the clutch hydraulics woes of the manual, the automatic is the path chosen by many when hunting for a 75 / ZT these days.

Our OEM-Q Slave Cylinder has proven reliable in service when coupled with our Original AP Master Cylinder, but with so many issues cropping up with historically reliable parts (production changes, tooling wearing out etc) it's impossible to say if this will continue to be the case.

A shame, as they're the only Achille's heel in what is an otherwise very good clutch system in terms of 'feel'.
