Broken down 1.8T

My 1.8T broke down today outside my house. Car was idling then the engine just petered out with revs getting lower and lower until it cut out.

Engine cranks but will not start, even after cooling down.

I cannot hear the fuel pump prime when switching the ignition on.

Bizzy Lizzy clip and viton o ring fitted to fuel filter by '2 Diesels' 4 years ago.

Fuel tank is 3/4 full.

I have swapped the fuel pump relay with the relay for the power washer on the fuse box under the glove box, but still no sound from the fuel pump and no start.

Can it be anything else before I start thinking about a new fuel pump?

Locate the power socket above the fuel pump, note the placement of the earth (black) and the white/purple wires (plus). Remove the plug and apply external power directly to the pump - does the pump now run?

An ohm meter across pins 2-5 might be informative.

Just to conclude this, it was the fuel pump that had failed. A working one is now fitted and the car goes again.
